    I search for a message
One of my results is unread
    I go into the message
How do I archive the message?
There seems to be no way to do this - not even through a sub menu option

    Am I missing something?

    I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2 with ICS 4.0

Are you using the Gmail app? Because on my Gmail app on the phone, there is an archive button on the bottom of the screen. On my Tab with ICS, there is an icon near the top of the screen that looks like a box with a downward arrow. That icon is for archive.

    yes, using gmail app :)
    try it urself
don't get confused with normal interaction - where u look at ur inbox and go into a message read - and then you're allowed to archive delete etc

    - search for a message
    - find one that has been unread
    - go into that message
    - for me there is no damn option to archive

    this winds me up!

I don't have any unread message right now so I can't check. Why just not read it, back out, then archive it from the list?

this is ok if u have only 10 messages in ur inbox
if u have 8000 unread messages it's a massive problem
lets say there was an important email received 2 weeks ago
u left unread meaning to come back to
u only just remembered about the important message
u search for xyz and locate it
u don't want to delete it and u don't want to keep in ur inbox

do me a favour: search for an old email - anything
enter it, move it to inbox and mark it as unread
now search for the same message and enter it
do u now have the problem i have??

Ok. I have the archive button on my phone, but not on my Tab. Its probably an app error. You have to send feedback to Google. What you can do is probably make a label instead of just archiving it.
