Android icons as default for contacts

Back when I had a phone running Gingerbread, I liked how the default icon for a contact was a green android guy. I never have real pictures of my contacts saved to my phone. Since ICS has been out I don't like how the default icon is some ugly silhouette of a person. Is there any way to change these icons without rooting or doing anything complicated?

Put their picture in. Or use any picture you like and crop it. Some Themes have plenty of Icons, or you can find just icons on play.

I had a pic of my cat's back end I used for spammers.
