When I saw the footage of the OS 4.0 version of Android, I was both dissapointed by the "IceCream" designation, but really excited by what I saw.

So I decided to root my stock OS 2.3.7 Nexus S 4G, and go for the upgrade via ROM, instead of just waiting for the 4.0 upgrade to come to all Sprint users.

(I rooted the phone using ShabbyPenguin's amazing one click Root app), and then downloaded the ICS Rom from XDA Developers (oICS) version 25, which worked absolutely fantastic. (you may want to google for the file oicsv25.zip, 187MB). Used TWRP 1.1.1 to flash the zip.

I have working WiFi, and everything else. Still buggy are:

    - No 4G support
    - Video capture (still laggy)

The rest is really marvelous, the menus are snappy, the phone operation is very smooth. Anyhow, thought I would share, feel like its been a great improvement (not that it was bad, but it is better now).

    Cheers,

If you flash oICSv36 which is based off 4.0.3, you will now have working 4G (with a 4G widget as well).

I rooted my nexus S and manually installed the official ICS 4.0.3 It has been a great experience so far using the new version. One thing that has been bothering me is that at times the phone will hang and reboot itself. Any ideas what may be causing that ? maybe some app that may be causing the memory to overload? It just freezes and then i get the boot screen.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I've also installed an ics rom, but find it very slow... is this the norm for this (pre-official) version of the rom? Its pretty and highly functional, free of bugs as far as I have seen, but load times of apps, retrieval of web pages, everything seems like its dragging through syrup.

My only question is where did you get the 'official ICS 4.0.3' for the NXS4G? it's not out yet? And if it's official then do you need to be rooted to install? will all NXS4G users need to be ROOTED to install the official version?
