Okay, I did a bit of research and I could not find a definitive answer to this question I have. I just got an Android tablet for Christmas. I wanted to sign into my new Android tablet using the same Google/GMail account as my Sprint HTC Hero because then my contacts, calendar, and GMail would be synced up to both devices. This is where my question comes in.

If I have signed into my new tablet with my smartphone's Google account will all of the apps I have downloaded on my Sprint HTC Hero automatically download to my tablet? Also, if I download an app on my tablet, and then switched to a new ROM on my Sprint HTC Hero would that app that I downloaded on my tablet also be part of the apps that automatically redownload after you sign into your Google account after flashing a new ROM? If someone could explain their experiences with how it would work with two Android devices in regards to the Android Market, that would be great. Thanks for your help.

I just asked this question here:
    http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/251521-2-phones-one-gmail-account.html

I've got two phones connected to the same gmail account and all the apps I've purchased from the market are available to downloaded on both. They're not automatically downloaded but they are available. The free apps aren't listed on my second device so I had to find each one and download to the second device. I imagine this could be done a little easier using lists in appbrain but I'm not sure.

(Perhaps a mod can merge this with your identical post in the Lounge.)

I put the post in two different places on purpose. I am not one who posts the same question in multiple places often. ;)

If a moderator sees fit to merge them, then so be it. I just wanted to figure this out quickly. :)

I would say no to the tablet but yes to 2 phones, but lets see what others say on this, I believe the market apps being downloaded to your phone are Rom related to 2.2 Froyo, now you may have them download to your tablet if you sync them both with app brain, but not sure worth a shot to try ;)

Yeah, the automatic downloading is an Android 2.2 thing I believe. I guess what I was most concerned with was that uninstalling an app on one device would mean that it would not be available for automatic download on the other device the next time I flashed a new ROM.

I am one who likes to just flash a new ROM and have my apps download automatically after I sign back in. If I uninstall an app from one device I am concerned it will not download to the other.

I still do not have a definitive answer for my original question. I guess I will just take the plunge and use my existing GMail account with my new tablet. :)

I really do not want to have to sync between multiple GMail accounts for all of my Android devices. That would be sort of stupid. If anyone has any experience with this scenario, please feel free to chime in here. I would love to hear what you have to say. ;)

I just upgraded my phone to 2.3 and was surprised, but generally ok with the market automatically installing every app I had previously. Problem comes in when I turn on my tablet (modded to honeycomb) and it automatically synchs to there too!

Even worse, I uninstalled visual voicemail from the tablet and now it's unusable from the phone. Shows installed from the market, but won't open, won't uninstall, and won't reinstall. Wound up doing a factory reset to stop my voicmails from getting sucked into the aether.

Are there any settings to turn OFF market autosynch?

What visual voicemail app are you using? I have never seen that available as an app that you can install from the Android Market, unless you mean Google Voice.

By the way, you can sign into your Android Market account on your computer and "push" apps that you have downloaded in the past to the device of your choice. As for settings to turn off automatic syncing to the Android Market, I believe they are set when you first boot up a fresh reset of your handset and sign into your Google account.

I'm using T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail, but when I search for that on the market there are several others available now. Since they're my provider I just like that I don't need to forward my VMs outside

I saw the full online settings for the first time yesterday. A lot of functionality there, but there is no choice that I can find there or from my device to prevent automatic synching. I've had to do factory resets on it twice in the week I've had it, and am now sure there was never a choice presented.

Was super-convenient speeding up setup of a new phone (and similarly helpful each time I've wiped it!), but irritating to have happen automatically when I launched the Market from my tablet.

Although my tablet OS hasn't changed, I would have never seen this prior to the new phone because my old one was an older OS that didn't support this Market synching

Now that I understand what's happening, it's not the end of the world for me (until I start running out of space).. I'll just have apps that aren't useful on one device or the other running on both.

Oh, I see. My handsets from Sprint just came with the Sprint Visual Voicemail app. When I flashed a custom ROM, I just sideloaded the Sprint apps, including the Sprint Visual Voicemail, back onto my handset. However, these days I just let Google Voice handle the voicemail.

The settings for preventing automatic syncing of your apps are not in the web based Android Market. I think they are buried somewhere in the settings menu of your device, but since I have never turned off syncing, I am not 100% sure where.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab (WiFi only) and I have an android phone. I've set both of them up with the same google account, because that just makes sense. The issue is that when I download an app to the tablet it also automatically gets downloaded to my phone. I dont want the same things on my phone as I have on my tablet. I would be using the tablet for reading documents and writing notes, so this is a huge waste of space and data for my phone. I would like to disable this function, but I am told by Samsung that the only way to do this is to associate different google accounts with each device. I really dont want to have to sync between two email accounts, but I really dont want to deal with the waste of downloading apps on both devices, and I am concerned that apps I purchase on my tablet will be charged on my at&t account (a business account). I have very limited knowledge of the capabilities of the Android OS, so I am not really sure if this issue is covered in what you are describing, but I thought someone might be able to give me some advice.
    Sorry to hijack your post!

Not hijacking the thread, because it is the same question. However, you situation seems to have the opposite results of all the others....

I also have Galaxy 10.1 Wi-Fi version. I have the original Motorola Droid. Both connected to same Google account. As others have stated here, if I purchase an app from the store on one device, it becomes available on second device. (Providing the app works on both....for example, some apps only work on tablet.....In this case, on phone, in the market, it shows as a purchased app, but not installed. Won't let me install on the non-compatible device...)

The app does not, however, install on both devices automatically....Odd that yours is.

One way to work around this would be to install apps from the market onto your pc. When you log in to the Google play store from pc, when you tap on an app you want, it tells you which of your devices it is compatible with, and which to install it to (if it is compatible with both.)

As for the credit card issue, I am not sure if you can associate more than one card per account, or if so, does the market let you choose method of payment.

Wonderful! I will try to download the apps to my PC first. I hadn't considered that as an option.
    Thank you for your help!

Oh, wow, this thread is back from the dead. Hey, that rhymes. :D

I have used the same Google account with two smartphones and two tablets over the last two years and I get the same results as Sherri. If I install an app on one device it does show up in my list of previously downloaded or bought apps in the Google Play Store, but it does not automatically install to all of my other devices. I can easily go to that list of apps in the Google Play Store and grab the app that I need on the device of my choice though. Pushing apps from the web-based Google Play Store is a smart idea too. :)
