I got my first Android device LG Optimus V when I switched to Virgin Mobile which is an even better fit for me than the Sprint SERO 500 plan which I (reluctantly) gave up! I've only had it for a couple of months so I am only now 'coming up for air' as I've learned the basics of my phone with which I am very happy!

I hesitate to root my phone (JUST found out it's possible :) because I just can't justify the 'bottomless pit' of 'care and feeding' which previous experience with 'optimizing' other devices taught me so I doubt that I'll be spending much time here unless I 'hit some wall' as I install more apps.

Nevertheless, it's comforting to know you're all 'here for me' :)

    Welcome to Android Forum!

You might want to explore the Optimus V forum for some insight into your device. Granted a lot of members here are "tweakers" who endlessly flash and update and test and reset. They do it out of enjoyment, not necessity. I kept my Nexus One unrooted for over a year because I too was concerned it would become an issue, but I had the fortune to have a Captivate to play with. When i discovered that root did not require any extra level of attention, I quickly rooted the N1.

Now, if there is no compelling reason for you to root your phone, then don't. There may come a time when you want to and we'll be here to help.
