Long story short... If I upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1 I am going to loose all my applications. To re-install them I can login to my google account and they will re-download for free. However I don't know what the password is, and Google are less than useless in helping me reset it. This means I am going to loose a LOT of paid applications, and this has made me pretty ticked off with Android, so much so I was looking at ditching it in favour of a iPhone.

However, the phone is still registered to this google account, and the gmail application is still logged in. This must mean the password is stored somewhere, right? If so, there must be a way of getting to it, right?

Thanks for the help.

First off, I have to admit to not understanding some of the things you're saying in your post (this is my problem, not yours, because I'm positive that you know exactly what you need).

Anyone who knows how to hack a Google password will probably be reluctant to offer their knowledge at all, let alone to somebody posting in a forum for all to see (not knowing if you're attempting to get into your own account or another person's personal info). ;)

I'm not sure what you mean by the gmail application being "still logged in" and yet you are having a problem with the password.

Fwiw, I once forgot my password and used Google's password retrieval feature, which is a link right below the log in box on the Google page:

https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery?continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F&hl=en

Also, I'm trying to understand how it is relevant whether you're using an iPhone or Android device to access your Google account.

Dont blame Android for YOUR MISTAKE of forgetting your password.

No its not. And even if it was is would be encrypted.

Try the above link. If that doesnt work, its VERY SIMPLE. Go to gmail.com, type in your username, then hit "forgot password". That simple.
