Android SD card help please!

About 3 days ago my fone gave me a low space message. I thought it was the SD card, so i went out a bought 4g one.
i Put the new card in, and i still get the low on space message.
I don't think my fones registering that i have the SD in.. every time i get a text it says "Message Deleted do to low space" or something like that. My inbox is completely empty.
Ive gone to my SD card settings and it tells me that i still have 3.8G's Left on the card ready for use, i could use some help.

What about the phone's internal memory?

yes you need to move stuff from your internal memory to your sd card....it often will not do this automatically....what version of android are you running? It will have to be 2.2 or higher to move apps to sd

As first step maybe it's would be enought to empty the email's waste basket.
