I bought a android phone with a 2.3.6 on it. I am not sure what brand of phone it is, it just says ebest. The person that helped me purchased it changed the language to english for me. However, a lot is still in chinese. I am afraid sometimes that I am hitting the wrong thing.

I need to be able to use it in china. I wanted text messaging, but I keep getting text messages in chinese. (some maybe from the china mobile, so may be advertising. ) I also wanted to be able to use the GPS. I have not tried it yet because I am afraid it will be in chinese and take to much of my internet allowance. (I have 20 MB a month)

Ni hao and welcome to AF.

Sounds like pre-loaded Chinese only junk/bloat, e.g. QQ or Weibo. Did the phone come from China Mobile? App languages are sometimes separate from the Settings > Language options. Probably can't remove it unless you root the phone.

More than likely it's advertising, just ignore it. I get that as well.

20MB, is that all you get? What CM plan is that? If you're going to be using Google Maps and Navigation, 20MB won't go very far at all. The navigation probably will be in Chinese, you're in China. You can always try it on wi-fi see what happens, without using any 3G data.

    BTW I'm also in China.
