"Android System/Checkin Service" using 10% of my cpu at all times

I noticed that too (Using CPU Usage from the market), but when I click refresh a few times, it disappears and only the 'top' app is taking up about 5-6% CPU. I think the Android System/Checkin Service is what was run as the CPU monitor was starting up.

Another app called 'Show CPU' does a 2 second poll constantly. And what I find disturbing is that idling it's about 3-4%, but when I gesture on the touchscreen it jumps up to 20% on my Acer Liquid with 768 Mhz Snapdragon processor. Granted I'm running a beta version of the 2.1 Eclair ROM, but still... Using the older stock 1.6 ROM, it jumps to about 10%.
