Hi, I have a Sprint HTC Hero (bought in Dec 2009, not sure what android version) and about 2 months ago I dropped the phone in water.

I pulled the battery out and put it in a bag of rice, and now just about everything on the phone is functional except: the menu button doesn't work at all, and the phone only boots into Safe Mode.

To get out of Safe Mode (tried just about every idea I could find on the forum/internet) I'm thinking about upgrading to the latest allowable version of Android... however I was told all my texting history will be deleted.

Is there any way of preserving this data? Thanks in advance.
