Hello. Is there a way to determine which version of Android I will be getting by the info on the retail box?

I still have my Optimus box and it doesn’t say anything about the OS.

I went to a few retailers to ask a few questions about the Optimus V and they shrugged their shoulders with a "I dunno."

I asked what version of Android came with the phone. They said it was either 2.1 or 2.2. I asked if version 2.1 could be upgraded to 2.2. They didn't know. Does anyone know if it can be upgraded?

I also asked if I can use the phone without buying a service plan. I was just going to use it with the wifi in my house. They didn't know. Does anyone know if I can use wifi and not pay for service?

    Thanks.

With LG, don't expect updates IMO. They're the worse. Even Samsung was already on 2.3.6 and LG wasn't. Anyway, as for what OS they'll be shipping with, you can check at GSMArena.

Try visiting the carrier's web site. Verizon lists the Android OS in the technical specs for all of their phones. Other carriers might do the same. As far as retail goes, sales reps at carrier-branded stores/kiosks are more likely to know detailed information than sales reps at places like Walmart and Target.

Otherwise, your best bet is probably to Google the phone. :-/

I found this site by google the phone.:)

If anyone happens to know if the Optimus V can be used WITHOUT a plan or activation (just using the wifi at my house) please let me know.

I don't need it for calling or texting. I just want to try it for gps and apps and the camera.

    thanks.
