Since it is such a new phone, it is unknown at the moment....but I am certain it will be rooted eventually.

Probably never. But that's ok. I gave up the iPhone with my constant cat and mouse jailbreaking. I don't want to root it. I want ATT and motorola to allow Android to live up to its potential on this phone. There should be no reason to ever need to root an Android phone.

I fully agree. Thats the ONLY reason why I wanted an android phone. I feel as its more AT&T this time around. Granted I don't like the fact you HAVE to use an email for motorblur to turn the phone on and use it for the first time.
If there was a way around it, I didn't see a way.

As for the status of the root, the big devs are waiting on spicific files that need to be leaked from Motorola (same that happened with the cliq). For now we can at least install non market apps via ADB. I'll try to keep things updated here as it unfolds

Cool guys thanks. I have been looking aound with droid explorer but i have no clue what im looking at. I have taken several c programming classes so i am kind of guessing what is needed is something i can recognize. Does anyone happen to know what files are stopping the Backflip from being a droid? I found something interesting by digging around in And-explorer, It was a file called BLOCK. It contained several other files that i cant remember at the moment. I also found something in the ABOUT PHONE section and it had a liscenses in it that said the phone can not be locked because it is an open source OS. If that is the case.....isnt that a violation of terms?

I don't know enough, but I am going to say no. Since updates are allowed and the said companies have contracts with each other, other situations apply. The lock that you speak of seems on the motorola side. Granted stuff AT&T has done has created a huge upstir so they might change their tune. Especially since android is getting more and more popular AT&T is going to have to be more careful how they treat the software to keep up with competition. Someone else probably has a more knoweledge of a response. Iam drunk!!!

Kinda a violation, sucks hna? I think they locked the phone to get everyone worked up and get the phone. Then when things start to cool down, they will leak the files. Same happened for the cliq.

I hope so i have had mine since the day it dropped and i am enjoying it. I really like the speed of it and the ******ed apps. But i think i am ready for the full android experience. I tried to get the cliq when it first came out but no one could unlock it to use it on AT&T's network. I want to learn as much as i can now so when it is available i will be able to truly fall in love with it. Hopefully by then i can write some of my own codes for it also.
