Hi All,
I'm one of the developers of the app Andrometer and it has come to our attention that the app is crashing on Droid phones. I think I have found the issue and fixed it, but I don't have a Droid phone (not available where I'm residing) so I can't fully test the fix.

I was hoping that some Droid users could download the app (free app) and let me know if it works without crashing.

Here is a brief description of what the app does:

Andrometer is the 2nd place winner in the misc. category for the ADC2 competition. The app allows users to estimate the distance to or height/width of objects they can see by using the phones camera, GPS, geomagnetic sensor and accelerometer.

Thanks and regards,

Just installed it on my DROID ver 2.0.1.
I killed all apps before starting Andrometer. As soon as I select "Position A" it crashes.

I'm assuming this is Andrometer ver 1.0. Let us know when there is a new version to test for you. Looks like a cool app. Good luck.

I tried it, but it never locked on with GPS. Restarted and opened Google Maps to make sure that the location was locked in correctly and it was but never got past this point with your software.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I'm disappointed that this is only happening on the Droid, it is a tough one to figure out without having a phone (especially when it works in the emulator and on the HTC devices).

I'll let you guys know when I have a new version that you can try.

Regards,

Thanks for the note. It only seems to be crashing on Droid once the GPS signal is acquired and it tries to active the camera and sensors. I need to dig around in that portion of the code and see if I can't come up with some modifications that will make it work on Droid.

Had to uninstall it completely. Today I noticed my batt drained extremely quickly. When I looked at batt usage it showed Andrometer used 44% of the batt even though I didn't run it at all.

Yep force closed for me to just tried the updated version today. Same spot after gps signal and it is opening camera it force closes.

How does everyone's batt usage look after being unplugged for several hours?

You can check batt usage by going to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery Use

I've been waiting for this app! Sucks to hear its crashing though :(

Just downloaded it. Its taking forever to get my gps location :/

Confirmed 41% battery usage. Been installed for 10 hours. Got it to do the force close when the camera opened, left it closed (not showing up in task manager) and now 10 hours later 41% battery usage.

Exact same thing for me. I would think a force close would stop all batt usage.

You guys must not be an APP-KILLING NAZI like me! :D

My display takes up over 50% of my battery (and I have my brightness ALL the way down). Cell standby hovers 2nd at around 10%, and so on.

Killing apps not only saves on battery, but keeps your DROID running smoothly. ;)
