Apologies for putting this here, but as it is not specific to one make or model, the root forum was not ideal. Anyway, Mods can move it!

It's only 149Kb, but too big to upload, so I will email it to the first person who wants it on condition they upload it to Megaupload or similar, and post a link. (Upload sites are barred from here, so I can't do it.)

It's worrying that the HTC Desire isn't supported but the Nexus One is? Surely they run on the same back end? Or is it because the N1 is 2.2?

Wonder why it does not work with the Desire...

    Probably this is the reason:

Lack of write access to system partition.

Desire is now supported for temporary (within boot) root on v2.1 by Androot 1.6.2(beta). Tested and working.

Temporary root? Does this mean when you restart, you will lose the root access, similar to one of the iPhone jailbreaks which when you restarted, it lost it's jailbreak?

I wouldn't mind that, as I never usually reboot my phone, and if I did, seeing as it is one click, it would be no bother to re-root it!

Reboot removes it exactly as it says.

I used this and it is a great tool, but I understand that Froyo 2.2 FRG22D has closed the path that Androot uses.
So if you have upgraded to that revision you might have to Root the old fashioned way.. which isn't that bad either

I used Unviersal Androot. Here is the link to a thread here that has a link to both rooting tools.

remember that if you have 2.2 FRG22D one-click rooting won't fly.
Fortunately the directions for rooting manually are also on this thread:
