Animated Caller Pictures

On my old Samsung t809 I found out that I could record a short video of the person and make that pop up as the picture when that person called me.

and it wasn't that smart of a phone!

The Vibrant seems to only have just pictures...

Ideas?

As far as I am aware, Android does not support animated .gifs yet. You would need some kind of third party app.

Actually, I am able to display this animated gif with full animation on my Vibrant much to the embarrassment of my Iphone friends:

So, the obvious questions are... can they be assigned to contacts and will they animate when they call?

Wow, I just gave it a shot an you are right. Samsung must have written gif support into the gallery app or something. I don't think any other android phone can display animated gifs. Anyone else know of another?

Nope. I just loaded about 20 different ones onto my phone and assigned them one at a time to my wife and had her call.. None worked.. It just displayed the first frame. :(

Thanks for the info... bummer.

They're too preoccupied trying to get rid of their framerate caps ever since the GalaxyS came out and 'pwned' everyone's phones' 3D performance by a factor of 4.

If my old Blackberry Bold 9000 could play them, any Android should be able...??

I like this one... I would probably assign this caller ID pic to my boss. :)
