Help Annoying email issue

I've set up my hotmail on my nexus s. It has no problems picking up new emails. However its also picking up older emails received from several days back. This usually happens when I've deleted all my emails from the phone mail. So I have to select them all and delete them. It then keeps bringing them up again after I've finished deleting them. Any idea how to stop this?

This happened with on both my N1 and NS, not sure how to fix that. It also marks emails as unread after already marking them as read.

Do you know if you're using IMAP or POP3?

POP3. Does that make a difference?

Mine is set to POP3 as well. Can Hotmail be set to IMAP?

I can't access my contacts file and all the folders show empty.. any ideas??
