Just spoke to a VZW rep who told me that there are no more annual upgrades, even if my 2 year contract was renewed last April. I've been with them for 6 years, though I don't think that gives me any leverage

Now, I do understand about their new policies that started this past January. But if I signed my 2 year contract last April, and they're still allowing their NE2 for contracts signed prior to that, shouldn't I also be allowed to use the annual upgrade (+$20) provision that they had? Otherwise I would have signed up for only a 1 year contract.

Any reps that can help me?

Googling "annual upgrade" it appears that the rep I spoke to may be wrong, and that I have nothing to worry about, and that VZ will honor the annual upgrade.

    Any thoughts?

I upgraded last March, and my Annual Upgrade showed up in my online account as expected on the day I became eligible. As long as you signed your current contract before the new policy began, and you meet the other requirements, you will get one last annual upgrade or NE2 credit to use.

The next contract you sign will be under the new terms and won't include those perks.

When did this new policy begin?
I signed my contract on 08/02/2010, and online it says I can't upgrade until 04/2012 :/

    I have to work?
You'll probably be eligible for 1 more and that is it. If you do, your NE2 credit is gone because an early upgrade resets all that.

It would be nice if consistent information were given across the board. Just because a program was cancelled in January does not mean you are not eligible for an early upgrade 1 more time--provided your calling plan makes you eligible to upgrade early. My advice: balance your desire to get into the latest and greatest versus what your last new every 2 credit will give you. I was all gung ho on the thunderbolt then I decided I could blow some cash on my kids that would give me more enjoyment than bragging rights to the privilege that my web pages now load 4 seconds faster. My Droid X is just fine.

On a side note, it is not a question of how long you have been a customer and you "deserve" special treatment. Sadly, the cell phone industry is the only industry where customers do this. Next time you go grocery shopping at A store, let them know you've been going there for years and you deserve a 15% discount on your order or you are going down the street to grocer B. Do the same thing at your favorite gas station. Most people seem to forget that you are in fact getting a benefit from the company you enjoy: quality cell phone service. It's not like you're sending checks every month and now you have decided to call in a favor. The cell phone industry has definitely brought out some very ugly practices.

I was told the same exact thing by VZW rep when I called. Call was placed on 3/17. I was calling to see what the options would be to upgrade to the Thunderbolt. I was thinking that I would get one more annual upgrade and then be under to contract rules. My last new phone was Droid INC day of release, so April 2010.

Apparently I am not eligible and the rep went further to inform me that the program was discontinued (even checked with his supervisor) I asked when it was disconninued, because this was the first i had heard. "Extension of that program ran out 3/16"..... Wow, anyone else find this a little convenient?

So now apparently my only options are to make my account a family plan and pay for 2 fricken lines that I don't need or pay full contract price. Neither option was really all that appealing to me yet the rep kept me on the phone for another 30 minutes trying to push me into a sale. There's no way that was going to happen.. I was on the fence about this device already. I was tempted initially because I love HTC phones and this will likely be the best they will offer for at least another year. No way your gonna get me to pay out the A$$ for what is a small step forward from my Droid INC, and no way I'm going to pay for 2 phone plans all while risking 2 cancellation fees.

Even though it sounds like I was shafted by VZW and somehow had my contract altered without agreeing, there's still a silver lining. Sprint announced the EVO 3d today. That phone is a monster! Blows away the Thunderbolt in every category and will probably set the standard of what other phones need to live up to over the next year. Guess who's gonna be first in line when that baby comes out? While I will miss the coverage I refuse to continue to pay out my A$$ for the luxury of having it.

All I really need to know is.... who's coming with me?

The rep and supervisor that told you that you'd lost your last remaining annual upgrade were wrong.

Thank you for the correct info. You'd think they would training their people better then that to get someone the correct info rather then trying to push a sale. Unfortunately that almost makes it worse. I'm still about 99.99% sure Verizon will loose the last 6 years of my wife's and my loyalty this summer. If they don't launch something that is at least close to the EVO 3d I'm gone.
