Why use a custom scheme vs something like launcher pro with a custom wall paper? What else do you get with a theme?

Sometimes the dev/creator offers custom icons, menus, etc., maybe boot animation although I have not see that myself. Only seen those with ROM's.

Don't be silly. There is no such thing as dumb questions, just dumb people! ;) JK. Couldn't resist, don't report me.

Themes can color and jazz up icons, widgets, boot animations and notfications. Wallpapers do not.

Each theme is different; some go as far as changing the appearance of every menu, notification bar, application, font, etc on the phone. To do it yourself you would have to manually create every file and then ADB push each file onto the phone manually. A theme does it all for you in a handy .zip file.

A good example is Fabulous' Revolution and Nextheme. They change the look of damn near everything on the phone.
