This may seem like a silly question, but is it worth having some sort of anti-virus installed on my phone? I've read conflicting arguements on the subject... what are your views?

    Cheers!:D

My views are that it does no harm. There are arguments that it takes up resources and slow down the phone, but given the high spec of the DHD, you don't really notice it. I've lookout installed, and it never really interferes with anything to any great extent. Even on my GF's ZTE Blade. The only slowdown I notice is when it scans new apps just after you've installed them via the market.

The other advantadge of lookout is that it offers all the features that HTCsense.com is supposed to, but with lookout, they actually work.

Fair enough... will check it out then. Main worry was if it'd cause major slowdown of my phone!

    Thanks again! :D

I tried to download it... downloaded fine, but am having real problems getting it set up... something about new user, null... deleted it and tried again and get the same message... bit gutted, as I wanted to get this on!

As far as I recall, it read the gmail account associated with my handset so it used that as the username.

    What exactly is happening?

Sound. If needs be, I'll uninstall and see what happens when I try to set up.

Username is taken from my gmail account, as you had said... I input a password... wait while it says it is creating an account. Seems to time out and then I get an error message - "Unknown error connecting to server".

I have also had a message that says something about "user null" or something like that!

I had already seen the first link you put up... doesn't seem to be what I'm suffering from. Have been trying to sign up online, but it doesn't seem to want to let me... it just tells you where to get it for your phone!

    No idea then mate, sorry.

As I said, it did take a while to reconnect me to my account when I resinstalled so they may be experiencing network type problems at the moment. Might wanna try it again later on?

So... email to the people from Lookout - I had a response of "sorry for the issues" and then was told to download from somewhere else (had to download a helper app - GetJar), so that I could download it.

All done and installed it - started to go through the process of setting it up and guess what... same issue! I've replied to the people @ Lookout again and am awaiting further info from them! We'll see!!

Sorry El P... what do you mean? Have I tried another email address to set it up?? Wasn't sure if this would be the right thing to do.

As I say, I've re-mailed the people from Lookout and am currently waiting on an answer from them!

    EXACTLY the same error...

Think I'm gonna have to wait for a reply from the people from Lookout! I asked them if they could set up an account their end and then I can just go in as an existing user!

    We'll see!!!

Not to worry mate... you weren't to know it wasn't gonna work!! :)

I'll just wait and see what they say when they reply! Hopefully they should reply today - I got their reply in the early hours of today and did what they said as soon as I saw the message (at work this morning)... sent them a mail at about 8.30/9am and am still waiting... we'll see what they say!!!

Finally worked out why I haven't been able to get Lookout on my phone... I have Droidwall installed on my phone and I hadn't allowed Lookout access to the mail (either by WIFI or 3G)... just installed it again, allowed it access to the net and then set up my account!!!

    All singing, all dancing... :D

EDIT - at least I know that Droidwall does it's job and doesn't allow any apps to access the net, unless I whitelist them!

Located my mobile... said it was a couple of doors down from mine, but it did say that there's a 75m radius... don't think it got the location using GPS (as I'm indoors), but was quite impressed non the less!

Had it do a scan and it said that everything was fine... but I try to be careful with what I download anyway.

Quite impressed with Droidwall to be honest... it's free and it seems to be doing the job... have got it installed, so that no apps can access the net without my say so... that way I'm not so worried about apps having access to stuff like contact details, as they can't send them anywhere!
