I am sick of my phone taking an eternity to switch into landscape mode and back to portrait. This phone has the slowest accelerometer of any I have ever seen. Is there any way this will be fixed in 2.1? Or will over-clocking once we have root do it? I want to know whether there is hope...

Hmmm...for those who have problems it might. I can't say I have ever had a problem with my phone switching between landscape and portrait unless an app is in the middle of loading.

    Calibrate the G-sensor. Settings->Sounds and Display->G-Sensor calibration.

    Also, that's what she said.

The only time mine really takes too long is when I do it by accident. Then it takes a bit to switch to landscape then back to portrait.

I have to admit, While I was reading this I changed from portrait to landscape and benchmarked the time it took. I couldn't even say one in the time it took to switch. And just for testing I did it again and same result. I would take the advice from above and calibrate because its pretty damn fast on my end.:D

Spare Parts could help with this issue as well.

like all things with the eris its probably based on the CPU load on the phone. if you've got all kinds of apps running (widgets and fun stuff on your home screen) it may take an extra half second to do stuff including rotate. 2.x may help manage it better, but time will tell. let us know if it helps when it comes out.

so theoretically spare parts may help if you tweak your phone the right way. realistically... try it and let us know.

compared to my last htc smartphone id say it transitions on average 3x faster.

i recently installed spare parts and i don't think it speeds it up all that much. it does however
give you better eye candy while it is lagging.

I calibrated it, and while It did make the problem a little better, it still takes about 2-5 seconds to rotate. I have spare parts installed, so I dony quite know what to do at this point.

I just went around my office and did a quick test, just to see how other phones perform with screen rotation. Timed them all using a second hand on a watch. When I say a half second it is because the full second had not passed.

The test phones and their results:
    Droid Eris - 2 seconds
    Moto Droid - 1.5 seconds
    HTC G1 - 3 seconds
    Sprint Hero - 2 seconds
    iPhone - 2 seconds
    iPhone 3gs - 1.5 seconds
    Blackberry Storm 1 - 3 seconds

Does anyone else find 2 seconds to be that big of a deal?

Very slow compared to my Storm. The Storm is almost instant, hardly noticeable.

The ERIS is agnonizingly slow. Turn the phone and wait, and wait and wait, and then it finally switches.

My is painfully slow as well. Did the calibration, have spare parts, but it takes about 3-5 seconds usually for mine to take affect. I guess I am just looking for perfection.

Spare parts does nothing to make your Droid Eris faster. The App is just like the option to have "Animations" on which makes switching screens slower. Your Droid Eris faster without Spare parts/ animations off.

Caddyman made it sound as if he was saying that a software update will not fix the slow keyboard rotation. Misunderstanding on my part. Thanks!!!
