Sorry if this has been asked but just wondering what you all have heard regarding this froyo update for the original Motorola Droid?

First it was late June, then July, then first of August... its now August 10th and no signs of the official OTA update.

I know many have been doing it manually, but that seems to be risky and I can't afford a new phone if I tank mine.

Again just wondering if anyone has any news, rumors or whatever concerning the "official" release of 2.2 for moto droid.

    Thanks

Its supposed to be released on the 12th with the Droid 2, so wait 2 more days... Although my friend already got his 2.2 somehow... I think he did the force update trick.

  3. Just a friendly advice, do not manually update Froyo. I've done last week and my Droid has never been the same. It seems slower, scrolling is jagged, and apps are not functioning like before. Still searching for instructions to downgrade to 2.1 Eclair. Wait for the "official" OTA.

I had 2.2 pushed OTA automatic a few minutes ago.

Thanks, that's great news! That's a good sign that they are back on track with it.

Let's see how long it takes for all phones to get OTAs.

Received the OTA this morning. Now my Droid is stuck at the Motorola logo start up screen. It's been like that for at least half an hour now.

Glad to hear you're getting the update as well. (Still waiting here) I had a problem with my first droid getting stuck during the updating process.

Support walked me through a hard reset of the phone and we tried a couple more times. Kept getting stuck and eventually they had to send a new phone.

Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and hard reset it. Hopefully it will work.

on my wife's droid but not yet on mine. From what I see so far much faster than 2.1 and some shortcuts and features seem well thought out.:)

    The good:
I got the OTA update notification and selected the install option!

    The bad:
Phone downloaded it and then crapped out during the install. Restarted phone and now waiting for the option to come up again.
No luck getting update by checking for system updates through the setting menu. Still on 2.1 update 1.

    The really bad:
    Phone keep restarting itself randomly.

May need to call verizon tech support.

I had the same problem and was looking at how to go back to 2.1. Found a blog "Peter Alfonso" he has an update that fixed the other update. Works perfectly now. Same process.

Wow, yea I would say call VWZ Tech Support on that one. At least the OTAs appear to be rolling out...

    Still waiting here.

They stagger the updates I believe so the network doesn't crap out from so many downloads at once. Those of you who haven't received it yet, will very soon. :)

  14. Anyone know if you'll still receive the ota update if toy already force installed 2.2?

I check the update status of my phone every hour. BAH!

  17. I got my 2.2 update and so far I am having performance issues. My apps are running slower, even simple texting is slow! Specifically, it is slow to respond and seems to take longer for the texts to be delivered. My main home screen freezes up occaisionally too and as I change apps. 2.2 looks nicer aesthetically, but thats it.
