Is there a way so that, when the screen times out, the phone doesn't lock? Therefore a simple tap on the screen will bring up the little "gesture unlock" screen or rather the homescreen?

I'm trying to get it so that the phone only locks when I manually do it.

There is an app/widget called "Screen Mode Widget". It has 3 options...
    1. Sleep Auto. just like factory settings
    2. Awake Stay. Device will not lock sreen, but screen will turn off
    3. Screen Stay. Device will not lock or never screen out.

I use option 2. That way I can hit the end button to wake up phone and not have to swipe or press menu. You cant wake it up by touching the screen though.

Hm, alright. Can you hit any of the other buttons to "wake it up" using that app, or just the End button?

You can hit the volume rocker or the trackball also to wake it up.

I found the Widget and installed it, but it won't load when I try to run it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Not sure exactly what is wrong. After I downloaded it from the marketplace I long pressed on a home screen, selected android widgets, then Screen Mode Widget.

You then just have to tap the widget to find the setting you prefer. The 2nd option I talk about above looks like a half-moon with a circle and line through it(like a no-smoking sign).

    Hope this helps.

Also, every time you power your phone off and on you have to set it again.

    Install keepscreen from market

after installed goto applications in the keepscreen program
add dialer (you can add multiple programs where you want to keep the screen)
    thats it,
    your screen won't dim
