I like the Evo 3D from almost all aspects except the camera. I traded in my Evo 4G this morning and don't miss it except for the camera. I was able to take very vivid and crisp pictures with it.

The 2D pictures I took with the 3D today were very disappointing. Pictures came back blurrier and darker than they would on the 4G and I'm almost having "buyer/trader"'s remorse for that.

Does anyone else experience the same thing? Did you find settings/fixes that helped enhance the quality of 2D photos?

you should post pics of you taking the same scene under same lighting conditions with both phones, and post them, so we can all see...

otherwise, there's too many variables to consider to say which is better. Both cameras are capable of really good photos and really bad photos. The comparison has to be a fair one.

i did a side by side pics in the store and looked at them, i think the 3d's pics were alittle darker, but really clear. idk, the camera was a big deal for me to, but I'll have to use out and about to make up my mind.

I won't have a chance to try for a while, but I'd like to toss out that you can adjust brightness, saturation and so forth on the camera side.

    Maybe see if that helps?

So far I like the EVO 3D camera better than the EVO camera. I'm still testing it being that I'm on vacation. I'll know for sure after a few more days. I plan on taking many pictures.

I love the 2D camera on the Evo3D. I think it's fantastic, personally.

In optimal conditions they both seem the same to me, but in poorly lit areas the 3vo pwns the evo.

I don't have my Atrix anymore, but in low light conditions, my opinion is that the Atrix's camera performs better than the 3vo's. That's not to say the 3vo's camera is garbage, it's simply decent, at least in low light conditions.

Considering that my Nexus One has a 5m camera I don't think the 3D will be bad considering its HTC which uses pretty decent hardware in their phones.

I'll have to wait til Monday to do comparisons to see the differences.

My e3d pics are also better than what I was getting from my e4g. Maybe you got a bad one?

When I compared them side by side the 3d had better color (more realistic), but the 4g had slightly better definition

the lower megapixel rating of the camera really has no effect on the quality on these cameras. the quality of the sensor on the 8MP Evo was on average with sub $150 point and shoot cameras. Based on the side by side pics I took with my old Evo and the new one the quality is almost the same.

that tells me that they used a little better sensor for the camera that compensated for the lower resolution camera on the 3D.

    -Just my two cents!

Actually, it's from the same line of sensors. The Lower the Pixel Ratio to the size of the Sensor (Pixel:Sensor Size), in general you get better pictures because each pixel will actually have more surface space on the sensor.... offers it a better opportunity to collect more light. In theory, since the sensors are pretty much the same, the 5MP cam should have the better shots in more situations (too include low light). In good lighting you shouldn't really notice the difference.

But that's if you are just playing a numbers game, post processing has as much to do with it.

I will tell you one thing, the 4Gs camera was UNUSABLE in the dark as the flash washed everything out badly. I lost many god memories because of that. The 3D's flash is perfect and takes very nice pictures in the dark or very dimly lit surroundings. That being said I totally agree with you that the 4G took far superior shots in ideally lit conditions. Its definitely a trade-off but for me it is 2to 1 in favor of the 3D because the 3D pics and videos are awesome.

Really? I've yet to see evidence that the E4G takes ANY pics better than the E3D. Take a look at my analysis:

    http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/362863-picture-quality-analysis-2d.html

This was a very controlled comparison with very few variables, so you can really see which camera performs better. I can't say the Evo 4G did as well in 'well-lit' conditions.

Darn you Novox77...... All of us phandroid denziens were satisfied with off the cuff subjective statements about how the 3Vo isn't as good as the Og Evo in certain aspects, and then you had to go all scientific method and objective and prove us all wrong.

I just came from a Hero device, so, I can't really complain about the picture quality on the EVO 3D because it's a lot better than the one on the Hero! xD

I notice my evo 3d needs more light than my evo 4g does, when trying to take a 3d picture it gets even darker. I hold them next to each other with the camera aps open on both and just looking at the screens the original evo shows a much brighter area and the 3d makes everything look darker and again when I switch to 3d it makes things so dark you can hardly see them even with the light on, both are set on automatic everything btw I didn't change any settings.

How do you upload pictures because its not even close - I will upload some. I just took about 12 pics on my lunch break and came back and look at them on my computer. To say the least I was very dissappointed since lighting was perfect outside today. Sadly this oncfirm my fear that the is far ahead (in good light). I have always been in awe of the 4Gs ability to take stunning pics in good light. Its the flash that worried me. I' ve always thought that MY EVO4g took pictures as good or better than the Iphone 4 and Galaxy S - at least the ones I have seen posted.

I wished you tests could translate into real life reality. I have pretty good eyes and my eyes tell me that even the EVO Shift's 5mp camera is better than the one in the 3D. Even the 2mp 3D stills are looking sharper to me.

I just went back and looked at your tests. The only question I have is how can I get that same sensor in MY 3D...lol. Those are not the results I am getting with mine as those look pretty good.

My pictures are resized down to 600px width. The insets are native resolution (5mp for E3D). You should post one of your E3D pics so we can take a look. I use imageshack.us to put the pic online.
