Anyone else thinking of cancelling home internet?

Oh ok. Haha was imaging the lag of modern warfare 2 over 3G in my basement, it was bad. Been meaning to test that out too.

ya know there are cell modem routers that use your SIM for the WAN? Special case use because it would always be more expensive than traditional internet. But last night's 6Meg 3G speed had me wishing that my DSL would go that fast....

Heck no. I have atleast 10 computers connected to our network, and 3 cell phones (not to mention about 4 ipod touches) that uses wifi at home. Of course me and my brother (who also has a mytouch) has the mytouch internet plan, but its nice to save battery life and have the phone switch from 3g to wifi.

There is a new service out there, Clearwire, who supposedly get up to 10meg download (6meg advertised). It is strictly wireless internet, no phone service, and it is being marketed as a replacement for home internet connection.

Just found out, Sprint merged with Clearwire, which is sold under the Clear brand and is WiMax/4G service.

No way. I run through close to 200gigs a month easy. I think sprint would frown on that.

200GB a month? Slacker! I'm the same way, also I mean my Eris is awesome, but I won't kill my home internet since I can't really have 3 people using internet through my Eris you know?

Depends on your provider I think. I did it for a month when I moved and had no internet. I took and made calls while tethering no problem. And I tethered as high as 2.5Mbs, ran VPNs, and everything I normally do. Phone and SMS continued to work. I used a BT headset just to make it complete and leave the phone where it had the best signal.

uhh while i enjoy the dig at the iPhone and Luke Wilson, what you said was inaccurate: GSM allows simulatenous voice/data while CDMA does not. Its about the network infastructure, not about the device.

To stay on topic, I could not cancel my home connection. no way jose, I download waaay to much stuff, and rely on wifi for other devices. I do tether on occassion when the home connection goes down, or when the bandwidth is being hogged by my PC gamer brother, and so tethering it is a nice convenience to have. However, it won't replace a home connection for me, and for the alot of people.

I do tether on occassion when the home connection goes down, or when the bandwidth is being hogged by my PC gamer brother, and so tethering it is a nice convenience to have. GSM doesn't allow you to do simulatenous voice and data....its UMTS. Also what type of connection do you have for home? Just curious my cable modem at 15mbs down NEVER gets bogged down even if I start hardcore torrenting....

Exactly. Just making sure, some people think you can do that on (E)GPRS.

I am a full-time IT student plus part-time IT intern who researches at home ways to get jobs done faster and better at work. No way I'm gonna lose my cable internet bandwidth. I also use my HSD connection for VOIP home phone service.
