Does this apply to headphones, as well, or just audio cables? I use Klipsch headphones with no issues and have also used an audio cable from a Logitech desktop speaker set and had no problem there, either.

I bought the LG bluetooth Tone Pro headset, and haven't looked back. You can get one on eBay new for $50, well worth investment over the wired cables IMHO.

If the headphones work, so should a cable. Only apparent reasons for failure are a bad cable, or high impedance from the cable (unlikely unless a really long cable).

OP may be best served to test same cables on another G3 to confirm a global issue.

No issue here. Headphones work fine as does the audio cable in our old lacking BT Minivan which is the only non headset 3.5mm cable we own.

Hadn't tried any yet, but for a test I just plugged my G3 into a 25' (foot) 3.5mm to RCA cable that generally connects my office PC to my office stereo. Worked like a charm.

I streamed Pandora in my car the other day for a couple of hours using a generic 3.5mm aux cable. No problems.

No issues here whatsoever on 2 different G3s, both with Verizon. Cheap aux cables work, bluetooth streaming works, different headsets work.

Thanks for the responses. I have tried two different cables on two different G3's (my wife has one as well). The problems does not affect headphones but only connection 3.5 mm audio cables. The phone seems to differentiate between cables and headphones. Even with a line plugged firmly in, both phones continue to play through the phone's speaker. We are on Tmo.

Just FYI, a4c.com (fka all4cellular) is actually a great place to look for great deals on headsets too, at incredibly discounted prices.

I tried using a Radio Shack audio cable in my car today & no luck. It's worked fine with every other phone I've had. I guess I'll start shopping for a Bluetooth receiver to plug in to the jack in my car & stream over bluetooth. 😕

I'm also on T Mobile. I wonder if this is exclusive to their version. Others have had no problems. I wonder what carrier they are on.

I think it is. Wife has the exact same phone, same problem. Haven't had any problems with headphones, just the audio jack. In fact headphones sound really good. For my car, I'm looking at this on Amazon: Amazon.com: Mpow

I decided to try an aux cable I got from Amazon in my parents car and it worked flawlessly.

So I called Tmo and they all but admitted this was a problem with the Tmo G3. They did give me a $20 credit on my bill so I can buy this: Amazon.com : Mpow

I have figured out that if the if the auxiliary jack has 2 colored rings, the phone acts up. If it has 3 colored rings like most headphones or ear buds the phone works well.

two rings is straight stereo, three is headphones /w mic

    Both work fine for me.

Make sure you push it ALL the way in though. I've noticed it's easy to push part way and think its all the way in... That's does produce some godawful static...

The phone definitely differentiates between headphone and cable. I have an audio cable which connects to my factory car stereo. When I plug it in my phone (for the times it chooses to work) there's a completely different symbol in my status bar than when I plug in my headphones.

I too struggle to get it to acknowledge the audio cable has been plugged in. I can find no consistencies yet why it sometimes doesn't work.
