I don't need to do it right now, but in case I have to send it back, I'd like just ONE forum that gives simple instructions on how to unroot and revert the HTC Droid Eris back to stock 1.5.

Seems like every forum I find is either 9,000 posts of people talking about completely unrelated subjects or is for the Moto Droid.

I would think there would be a program out there that would do this automatically by now.

did not work for me. I can't get the custom recovery off after flashing the downgrade.zip. I get remote failed in the apk tools

  3. Did you attempt to run the RUU?

We just ran that method on a friend's Eris last Saturday and all went fine.

Sorry for the bad advice so far. Can I point you to this instead: HowTo: Flash Any Ruu - xda-developers

What happens when you try that and then try the RUU?

That could be a problem since I do not have root access anymore. I just need to get to stock recovery

as i said, if you check out that thread i have links posted there. theres a rom you can flash that will take you to 1.5. then apply the system update and it will unroot your phone and take you to the most current version of 2.1

So it will still update even though it's not tied to an account? Sweet. Thanks. I'll let you know. I'm flashing shortly with the rom in your post.

then take it in and show then that it wont upgrade lol
dont worry about the custom recovery. i flashed a rom IN FRONT OF a VZW rep yesterday, and handed her the phone while it flashed. she didnt even notice.

just make sure all your personal info is off the phone and take it in.
