Anyone seen a N5 out "in the wild"?

While the nexus line has always been a big hit with the android enthusiast crowd, the general public has never really caught on.

I saw a guy with a nexus 5 on the bus today, and it got me thinking that's only the 2nd nexus I've seen being used by someone I didn't know. The only one was a galaxy nexus last year. Never a nexus 4

So I thought I'd pose the question, have you seen anyone else with the device?

I never saw another Nexus 4. But I have a friend with a GNex and a friend with an N5. Neither of them are really into phones/Android which I find interesting.

With the device only being a month old and not having a lot of advertising or strong sales pushing from in store staff, I don't expect it to be a popular device. It's a hit within my family with my gf, my brother, and one of my cousins having it. Even working on a college campus, I don't see many. In terms of the wild (people I'm not related to or friends with) for Nexus devices in general, I've seen two Nexus 4s and one Nexus S.

Though I did run into another person wearing Google Glass two weeks ago at Wegmans, lol.

In the UK I've seen a Galaxy Nexus a couple years back. That's it.

Most popular phone I've seen out and about, apart from iPhone obviously, is the Note 3 surprisingly. When I had the OG note though, I saw no one else with one.

Nope, none. I do see a lot of Crapples though.

ok - I'll probably regret saying this, but...

What you said is so true!!! I wonder the same - why? In the US, apple does have better sales than they do worldwide, but even then, there are at least over 50% Android devices in the US.

Yet, anytime I actually notice somebody's phone because they are inadvertently waving it around (showing off?) or holding it up at eye-level for long periods of time, it just happens to be an iphone.

Most android users on the other hand hold the phone in a more 'modest'/'conservative' way - use it, get the info they need, and move on to what matters next. Even folks playing games, or reading an article - there is something about how Android users hold (/display) their phone compared to iphone users.

I read @Rxpert83 's post - and the first thought was - I can't remember the last time I noticed anybody's phone...
And then I read @HanSolo 's post - and realized that I DO know which of my friends use iphones! LOL!

I have seen the nexus 4 once from a friend and I saw a nexus 5 at the gym the other day in white. Overall I do not see a lot of nexuses device in public like I do Samsung s4 and I phones. That is one thing I like with the nexus as well, not seeing it all over the place like other devices .By the way this is my first Nexus and loving it.

I see more galaxy s3, s4, or notes than I do iphones

I guess I notice it more because I'm a huge android nerd:cool:, and usually only need to see a glimpse of the device to know what it is.

iPhones are fine for people who just want a phone to make calls and text. My wife is not a tech junkie and loves her iPhone.

If I show her anything of how to tweak a phone using my Nexus (or any of my other friends, for that matter), they start getting antsy and say "No, that's too much work!"

As a Store Manager at a home improvement warehouse and 136 associates, I am the only one with a Nexus 5. In a way I like it, I can brag about how fast the phone is, has KitKat, etc. LOL! They just look at me like it's no big deal but you can tell they are jealous. :D

I haven't seen any yet, but I was able persuade two classmates to finally order one...after they got to mess around with mine for a few minutes.

One of my coworkers had a Galaxy nexus from my old job and when I went to pick up my nexus 5 at a T-Mobile retail store this guy was buying a nexus 5 and was upgrading from his nexus 4.

Nope. Only Nexus I've seen in the wild (and quite a few) was a Galaxy Nexus. Never saw a Nexus One, Nexus S or 4. Can ya tell me what those 3 have in common? :p;)

People who say stuff like that irritate me. iPhone is JUST AS difficult as an Android, it's just different. The only reason people say that is because iPhones are so common and well-known that everyone knows how to use one whether you've owned one or just an iPod, or even neither. They are too intimidated to make the switch and learn something new, they'd rather be comfortable with what they know since they're 30 friends and 10 family members iPhones work exactly the same way. It's really silly. You're paying $800 for a name...

But back on topic, I always keep my eyes out and inspect people phones. I am a phone junkie and am interested in all the latest and greatest. I always inspect people who have their phones out to determine what phone they have and if I should be jealous (which now with my N5 I never am :D).

Even with my eyes always on the prowl for technosexiness I have yet to see ANY Nexus device in person other than my very own N5. It disappoints me that the most phones I see are iPhones, with the Samsung Galaxy S3/4 coming in second. I'm actually quite surprised not as many people have the N5 as the Samsung models. I will be keeping my eyes open though to meet a fellow N5 owner, and I will make sure to befriend them.

Saw one last night again on the subway. A random guy approached me and asked how I got mine to run so smoothly. I only shared partial insider secrets :p

I've seen a couple of Nexus 4 models.

Yet as others have mentioned it's the iPhone's that are the most visible.

It's the fact that Apple does have excellent marketing, they're perceived as "cool" and there's a massive third party accessory industry just for them. They're tiny and feminine which appeals to ladies and older people.

That said, Android ver 4.2.2 and higher being the excellent OS it is, will make a big difference going forward.

I'm positively thrilled with my Note 3 and Nexus 5 phones, it just keeps getting better. No phone is perfect, but these two are truly excellent.

Thanks to Google there's a lot of excitement in the smartphone sector.
