My wife is getting a Galaxy S2 on Monday. She will not want to root a brand new phone.

If it does not come with update 2.3.6 already on it, is there anyway besides rooting to defer the update until hopefully they figure out why it is causing such poor battery life?

Earlier this week my phone stopped asking me to install the update. Either AT&T pulled it or the phone got tired of me ignoring the update request. It's possible you won't see any update prompts on your wife's new phone.

Hopefully it won't come with 2.3.6 on it already. I ordered the GTMax extended battery just to be safe.

My update just showed up today. Anyone know if there is a way to do it unrooted?

Well, that's what I get for saying something - my phone started bugging me again today to apply an update.
