Did you try the profile widget? I use it to switch profiles when I'm at work

    .
Yep, Silent Boot by Anton Weber is a FREE five star download. Be sure to run the EVO through one complete off/on cycle before you think - hey this doesn't work.

I'm not sure I want to add an app that must monitor activity all the time for the rare occasions I reboot my phone. I'll just set it to my silent profile, and shut if off.

I would agree, I never turn my phone on silent. excluding rare trips to a movie theater or a plane ride.

its definitely a hassle to do this before every reboot, not hard but just a hassle to remember.

you can do this through adb, go to xda developers to learn how if you don't

these were instructions to remove the boot sounds of the fresh rom, but should work just the same.

connect your phone... drop to command line
    adb remount
    adb shell mv /system/media/android_audio.mp3 /system/media/android_audio.bak
    adb shell reboot

This will keep the sound there (as android_audio.bak) in case you ever want it back.

Agree with you if it is the case that you factory reset every week, but market place is there to download apps, so why is it a hassle?

You need to have a rooted phone to modify anything in /system/*. So this would not work for most people.
