NutritionPal is an offline food diary and nutrition tracker I developed to address the problems I had with existing calorie counters. Specifically, I wanted to build composite foods (combinations of ingredients) from a reliable data source (the USDA nutrient database) to track a more complete set of nutritional targets - existing calorie counters I had used were either too inflexible (no recipe creation tools) or too unreliable (primarily user driven content).

Note: NutritionPal does not include a barcode scanner or the type of massive food database you might find in other calorie counters - users primarily interested in tracking calories will likely prefer existing solutions. In any event, I hope some of you find it useful - any feedback would be appreciated :)

    New version - 0.1.1

A custom threshold was added to settings in this version to filter out empty or incomplete days. For example, I'm currently using a daily threshold of {Energy (kcal)}>2200 to ignore nutrition data on days with less than 2200 calories logged (my currently target energy intake is 2815 kcal). This should improve the utility of long duration nutrition views (weekly/monthly/yearly).

    Changes:
    • Updated swipe to add interface in search dialog
    • Added daily threshold setting for filtering out empty or incomplete days
    • Added database information to settings
    • Fixed import default database in settings

Enjoy the app, but a couple of suggestions for improvement:

    1) Expand the database of food/ingredients to be comparable to other, more popular nutrition apps, such as MyFitnessPal. It would be simpler and easier to use if some pre-prepared dishes were already in the database, e.g. Doritos :)
    2) Add UPC scanning
    3) Incorporate non-standard ingredients often consumed by people following non-standard diets, e.g. Vegans. For example, nutritional yeast is a commonly consumed ingredient (for Vegetarians) but it is not in your database.
