Since you can probably tell, its cold outside... So i want to know if anyone knows any apps that will heatup your device, so that the phone will work as a heater.

its cold? its in the 60s already here in LA.

and i would be surprised to find such an app that exists to do this. heat will kill your battery, not to mention it can cause other issues.

or is this an April fools joke in January? ;)

Heat=wasted energy so its not something to really wish for but you could root the phone, put a custom kernel on, overclock it and make it run at max speed. My phone's got to 55

Its a bit of programming that controls the phones processor and other hardware. Not really something to mess with just for warm hands lol :)

Play games - that's usually the quickest way to convert electrical energy in your battery into heat ;)

There's a serious point there: to increase the phone's temperature you are converting your battery's stored power into heat. So running the cpu flat out and turning the screen to full brightness with both do this. Streaming data over mobile networks is also good for this. But these are also all things which will run your battery down quickly.

Most outdoor/hiking stores will sell those hand-warmers though.

Walmart sells the hand warmers. They have a 10 pack for $6.00US. That is about 1% of what it would cost to replace a smartphone ruined by forcing it to heat up.

Electronic components today can withstand a good amount of heat before they start to fail. The sensitive part of the phone would be the battery and display. Those would fail from overheating before the main board components would.

In order for an app to heat up the phone here would need to be some sort of hardware in the phone than the app would interact with. No such hardware exists in smartphones. So no app will be able to heat up your phone. Android or iPhone.

There are a number of hand warmer apps on the Play Store. Use them at your own risk though ;)
