[App suggestion] Messaging apps

Do any of you have a preference for messaging apps, or are you on the stock messenger? I have been having some issues with my messages downloading and I want to try out another app.

hangouts is a good app. i use it with my main number (I also use google voice and I se its app.)

I like hangouts as an IM and video call app but use the aosp messenger for SMS (i still like to keep the two separate)

When I get my One back from HTC (getting the camera module replaced love, I'm going to try EvolveSMS. It looks pretty nice. Textra is excellent. There is just one reason I don't use it. I travel extensively with my work so my phone spends quite a lot of time off or in airplane mode. I therefore don't always my messages immediately & it can be useful to know when they were sent. An app called SMS Sent Time adds that functionality. Textra has the excellent feature that it suppresses the stock messages notifications but this causes SMS sent time to stop working. For that reason I use Chomp by the same dev.

If you don't want sent times added to your messages I recommend Textra. If you do want them then it's Chomp.

Tried Evolve to me it doesn't beat Handcent

One of the best things about Android is the choice available. The best way to find out which is best for you is to try them. The most popular ones all have free versions.

I added the theme pack, there aren't many themes at the moment so I wouldn't pay for it unless you want to spend a bit of time messing about with apks and editing images yourself etc.

I think it's pretty easy, I just haven't had time to play about with things.

I switched to Hangouts recently as it was able to do a SMS plus other things all in one.

I also use WhatsApp for those people who use it.

Textra is a great app. I love the layout of it but like every app it does have its ups and downs. More like personal preference.

I had to drop it today. Appears to be causing some problems getting voice mails delivered. 😥

Can't believe no one mentioned Viber, it's the fastest thing I have found yet if you are looking for speed. A lot faster than Hangouts which I have used a lot too!

A tie id say since the thread is about messaging apps and not just sms but Prez was right that viber needs both people to have it and hangouts doesnt
