I'm surprised I haven't seen this posted here yet. This is basically the same app as easy root, except that it is free :)

Here's the developer's site (he's Chinese, it seems):

    universalandroot ????

And I've attached the .apk to this post as well.

This works on the Droid X, as well as many other phones:

Also, this thread over at XDA was very helpful as well:

Thanks for posting this. I think I'll try this one first. If for whatever reason it doesn't work, then I may try EasyRoot afterward.

Tried looking for a video example on YouTube or something but I couldn't find anything.

Thanks. I appreciate it, but I meant a video example of Universal Androot. I've already seen videos on EasyRoot.

I rooted using the 1 click method on my computer...but it was a struggle...running bootcamp windows 7 and it took 20 attempts before it worked...

Can I run this program(universal) to unroot and then root again so I am set up for root and am easily able to get out of it...not sure I will be able to get the 1 click method to work again for me..
  9. How do you get androot, is it free? Looking to root but the easiest way possible.

Did you read the OP at all :p

It's pretty clear that the file is attached to the end of the post :D

  11. Yes i read it but i didnt know they were the same thing :p I said im new and I dont know what roms n bins are, but I want to root mostly for the free wifi tether. I was holding off rooting until the update and now if I want to try the leaked version it says to root first and do some steps to move SU file which i'm a lil scared to do. I posted questions but no one has answered them yet about if I wait for the official 2.2 would i have to unroot first....I've been reading all the posts just makes me very confused  lol
Sorry but thanks for answering me atleast!
  12. wont work for me.. ive tried the universal androot.. hit the root button and it goes through some comands then says... I screwed up my 2.2 build and then like an idiot I tried to nandroid back to 2.1. Didn't work, I got stuck at the Moto logo. I finally got RSD to find my phone so I could flash .604 sbf.

Once back to 2.1 I used this to re-root. 1-click wait a few seconds and it pops up with "woot you have root". Doesn't get much easier than that. Thanks for the file.

I will not upgrade to Froyo until either it is release officially and confirmed to be rootable, or when a decent copy of Froyo is leaked/built/released that numerous users can confirm as working properly. I'm more of one of those people who let others do the testing for me, then I follow procedures given once all is said and done. I just got my phone yesterday, I do not want to **** this baby up right now. I don't care if I can downgrade or if there's little risk. I simply have no interest in it right now. :p

    I rooted 2.1, not 2.2.

probably a good idea. plus, it'll be good to really get used to 2.1, so when you do get 2.2, you'll know just how much better it really is.

I don't see where it says that this works on the original Droid, if it does at all, but I tested this root method on my cousin's fiance's Droid running Froyo and it rooted it flawlessly. I immediately downloaded Free Wifi-Tether for Root Users and it ran without a hitch.

Just wanted to mention it I guess.

Might be doing this to the wife's phone, then overclocking it to a beast of a phone. haven't read much on how much the droid1 can overclock, but I heard it can take a nice dose.
