a few days ago I installed one of those mosquito repelant apps. it works well, but it also started nagging me in my notification bar to buy stuff. Today I noticed that on two of my home screens there are new icons for apps I've never installed. Things called Assaulter and Pets 4 u, plus others. I can't find them in the applications menu, but there are a few things in there I don't recognize. When I click on the them to uninstall, it goes to the screen, but everything is greyed out. Is there a way to fix this with out reloading the phone? I'm afraid if I back up the phone before the reload, all this trash will follow.

    Please help.

Have you installed anything *not* using Google Play Store?

gotta wait another few months before the new rules kick in and apps won't be allowed to do that, but till google forces it, people are donig lots of stuff like that.

on 7yr old GF daughter phone, I found shorts cuts to hotels and dining places, short cuts put there by malious free game apps on google.

It's aggressive advertising, pushed by ad networks like AirPush and caused by a recently installed or updateted app on your phone.

This thread will help you to catch the culprit app ...

    Push Advertising

BTW: These icons on your home screen aren't apps, they are shortcuts to internet advertisings pages.
Just shove the icons in the trash can.

I tried deleting them. When I drop then in the can, the phone just sits there for a second or two with the icon over the can, then it pops back to where I found it.

No, I have not side loaded any apps.

I did delete the app I think caused all this. I still get the push in the notification bar.

Thanks for the app hunters guys. I'll give them a try.
