I bought and installed a 64 gb SD card thinking it would be fun to put games on there on the basis that I read from an Android site that I could move data to the SD card. What they failed to mention is that only a small ass portion of the application goes to the SD card and the rest stays in the phone. I installed Baldur's Gate 2 and "moved" it to the SD card only to find that 2.42 GB of it is still on my phone storage and 33.62 mb went to my SD card. That's just fantastic, I may as well have not even put this SD card into there.

Is rooting my phone to the SD card the only way to actually use this SD card? I have no idea what I'm doing.

I shouldn't have to find workarounds for this just because some lazy and/or greedy idiot wants me to use the piddly ass 16 gb on my phone (which is already half full with system memory and such) instead of the perfectly usable 64 gb SD card that's been rendered useless by poor programming.

It has been sorted as of Marshmallow 6.0, that you can used the SD as a unified storage space combined with internal, for all your apps, games and everything. So workarounds shouldn't be needed, any more. But if you got a phone or tablet using an older version, that can't or isn't upgraded, then you might have to root and use app2SD or something.

Moving apps and games to SD was only ever partially supported anyway, some things malfunctioned, widgets didn't work, etc. and some devs do assume everyone has huge internal storage.

    Welcome to Android Forums.

What device are you using and what version of android? As mikedt pointed out 6.0 solves it. If you go that route of course you can not remove the SD card.

Heyo thanks for the replies. It's an S3 with 4.4.2. I'm guessing that I'm SOL and my phone is too old to upgrade to 6.0 :\
A quick google search shows that someone was able to get 6.0 onto an S3 but it was buggy?

Does apps2sd work still I thought I read somewhere that it was disabled or no longer supported or something

I currently have 4.4.2 on my HTC, I use Link2SD to move all apps to SD card, please note that my phone is rooted and I paid for the full version of Link2sd so everything can be move to SD card without problem.

For whatever reason even with Links2SD I can't move more than 33.6 mb of Baldur's gate it. I open Links2SD and it shows me that Baldur's gate is 33.6 mb when it's 2.42 GB...

I'm done wasting time on this crap I guess I'll just play crappy candy crush type games and ask for a refund on the play store

    Thanks for the replies

Sounds like that's the way the game was written, it only stores its game play data in internal, and nothing can change it. Except possibly the developers, they wrote the thing.

Maybe it's related to the phone's specific hardware / firmware, I used the app for years without problem. Even Facebook with its 300mb of data is moved to the SD card.

No I didn't root it. I looked into it but I'm not sure I want to start my phone from scratch just yet, although I may do this in the future.

If I go that route I'll check out the rooting section and see if I can figure it out.

Once again thanks for the help; I think it's just the way the developer wrote the app and I'll have to commit to rooting if I want it to be on the SD card.
