I've used the "Edit" function to remove the home screens that I don't want, but now when I hit the Home button it takes me to the last (right-most) screen in the list. I'd prefer the home screen be the middle screen, but no matter how I arrange the screens (unless I add all 7 back in) the home screen is whichever is the farthest to the right.

Anyone know how to assign which home screen is the default for the home button?

Dude, the easiest thing to do (and also get a speed increase) is to use LauncherPro or ADW.Launcher (my choice as it's also easier on the battery). With either of these you can assign whatever screen you want as your default. ADW.Launcher is even more customizable than LauncherPro.

If you want to be able to set which screen is the home screen, you will have to do like the above poster suggested and use a different launcher. After some messing around, the home screen goes like this without changing the launcher or anything. If you have 1-4 screens, your home button will take you to the right-most screen. If you have any more than that, 5-7 screens, the home button will take you to the screen 4th from the left, so if you have 7 screens, it will take you to the middle screen.

i'm generally against launchers and live with the limitations. Now I have and Android default launcher, TouchWiz launcher on top of that then a another on top of that? This is sounding too much like Windows mobile. Not thinking that's the best idea.

Uh...no, you can set your default launcher. Only one launcher can be active at once, the exact same as Windows Mobile. Use Home Switcher if you'd like to easily switch between wich launcher you use.

there's a way to do it. make your home screen from all the way to the right, delete the screens before it, add back those screens to the left and right of it (for example, 3 on the left and 3 on the right to make my home screen in the center) and then it becomes your default home screen. I haven't played around with moving the screens yet because I don't want to lose my center home screen configuration, but that's how it works for me. seems like a little glitch to take advantage of.

I could never get ADW to work as well as LauncherPro.

LauncherPro has a much better dock with more options and for some reason ADW always wants to center widgets on the screen.

ADW has many few options in my opinion.

Ahhh...the freedom to choose your own homescreen launcher options - gotta love Android! :)

LauncherPro/ADW sit next to Touchwiz and not on top of it. Think of it as similar to parallel installations of Gnome versus KDE in Linux, which don't affect each other's performance, and don't share each other's widgets. It's not like Windowblinds lipstick on top of the stock desktop in Windows. Once a launcher is installed, you chose which launcher you want to use by default the first time you press home button (or can have home sitcher to do it for you). These launchers will make your phone very resposnive, because none of the bloated TouchWiz parts will get started at all. By the way, the phone does not ship with an Android default launcher with TouchWiz slapped on top, TouchWiz is the only launcher that comes with it to start with.
