assigning dif ringtones for dif people, looks easy but NOT!!

just gotten my htc desire and trying to assign different ringtones for different contacts initially this looks easy as i follow direction then type in select contact and when i do put name in (as it is shown in my people app) then it does nt recognise ANYONE!!! Can anyone help me please as this is driving me mad!!! Thanks in advance

I am not really able to test right now.. but it seems to me that this should be easy enough

click people app.
click the contact you want to change ringtone for.
under "information" it says Ringtone Default, click that.
select ringtone.

done?
if yes, Great! have fun
if no, tell me what and where stuff goes belly up

Thanks for reply, I can set ringtones from preset ringtones but cant set this from the ones I have downloaded myself, its doing my head in ! Any ideas???

Navigate to the file you want to use as a ringtone with a file explorer like Astro, open it, press menu, set as contact ringtone.
