For what it's worth, I called ASUS and told them what was happening. The guy informed me the only way to get GPS working is to send it in and get it fixed. What do you mean? I asked, I told him I read the press release about the unibody design and wanted to know what they would be able to do for me.

He continued and explained he assumes they will fix the design or IMO replace the unibody with some sort of RF window. Of course the tablet is under warranty, I only have to pay for shipping one way.

I figure it's worth the trouble to send it in and see what happens. Either way, he said they would fix it...so if they send me back the same device, not fixed, I would be really pissed. We shall see...ill post something when I get it back, should be about 2 weeks.

I was given an RMA number and everything. At this point, im optimistic.

Good luck! A number of us would be interested (to understate) in how that turns out. Someone on the XDA forums was doing the same and got told some nonsense about how they'd remove the GPS as a fix. Before you part with the device for a while, you may want to try speaking to a supervisor to get a more solid answer on what the techs will do before you ship it to them. As with my experiences with shipping my Asus laptop for RMA, the phone reps really haven't a clue what's going on because noone informs them of anything and they can't get any status on stuff other than what's on your account info. It'd be nice to see Asus respond with a real solution for those who purchased the Prime before they removed the feature from the spec sheet.

Personally think ASUS should pay for shipping both ways !

When I purchased mine, in the specs it said, "GPS", not "Limited GPS" !

Just an FYI... I called Asus prior to returning mine to BestBuy for a refund and was told they would fix it if I sent it in. What made me not do so is they would never say what was going to done and even asked me to do a factory reset first to see if it fixed the problem

If your expecting an actual fix as in a new shell or modified shell, I would not hold my breath for very long as you might end up the shade of purple that your Prime is, provided you have the Grey one :)

Honestly though, if there had been enough time to send it in and get it back before my return window closed, I might have given it a shot.

thanks. i live maybe 15 minutes from there. if my gray bars across the screen continue (hasn't happened the last couple of days) i will just deliver mine myself and save the shipping fee (which is ridiculous we have to pay).

I have been following a number of threads over at XDA. One man is claiming he has a source in ASUS and the issues are related to firmware. read it over there.

    TF-201 WIFI/GPS Compared Against Tf-700 - xda-developers

I am just getting so sick of being worried about what ASUS is going to do. I love my tablet. Minus the GPS, it works very well and is quick. I still haven't sent mine in, there is a user on XDA who is waiting to get his back, once i hear the outcome i'll decide if im sending it in or not.

I read this yesterday and the only thing I can say is that if it is true, it makes Asus look bad IMO. This would mean they started marketing the new Prime with a newly designed back, which they state fixes the issue of the 201 when it actually does not. This would mean they either did not test it and assumed it would fix the issue or are just flat out lying.

This is why I will wait until the next prime is confirmed to work as it should and not be on the pre order list :)

I would like to see it be firmware though for those that kept their Primes.

+1... this is definitly on my list of subscribed threads. ;) Thanks for keeping us updated on developments guys.

I'm nervously awaiting my 2nd prime tomorrow... had to return my first due to audio hissing and distortion when using the headphone jack. Fingers crossed that I don't have any other issues with the new unit...
