my phone is stuck in the twrp bootloop. I have read the thread on xda, but when I plug the phone into the computer the adb doesn't see the phone, and when I try to use the comand terminal it gives me a list of folders. I can't find where I need to put the comand into the terminal. Apparently this happens if you try to use an OTA from the carrier, I did have an update, but I never tried to install it. Instead, I was sitting on my chair listening to a podcast, then my phone just reset into TWRP, and then started the bootloop. I just need help finding where to put the comand in, but although I am registered with xda, I can't post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which version of the G2 do you have? Are you trying to flash a 4.4 ROM?

Yeah so there's been a lot of this cropping up lately. If you have a nandroid backup, you might try restoring that first in twrp.

If not, I know the dd command(s) have been working for some but not others. Most likely, your problem with adb is you don't have the adb interface driver installed.

I've seen a few cases where a nand restore, the dd command(s) and flashing a new rom pushed to the /sdcard have all failed to result in a booting phone. For those stubborn ones, a reflash of stock using the LG Tools software and the correct kdz/tot/dll files have been the answer.

Thanks for the help guys, I am using the AT&T version of the g2. But I got it working again. The nandroid backup didn't work because it would not boot to the system I could load the backup and it would reboot to TWRP. I use the directions on XDA Developers, I just have to figure out how to use the command terminal. I input the line of code, and everything works well now. Now I have another problem, but I think it would be better served in a different thread.

Glad to hear you're all set. I moved this thread to the root subforum. If you have anymore questions root related, feel free to post them in this area. :)

I have almost the same problem, but I cannot even get the phone into download mode. I push up and connect to PC but then it goes into twrp only. XDA method no good. Am I fried?

I had three same problem. D800 phone that i bricked about 5 times in the last two days. If you find yourself in a bootloop (i actually deleted everything and was only able to get to twrp), your best bet is to enter the terminal command
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
That, if our doesn't get you booting ball to stock asset the very literary should get you into download mode. Hope that helps, it worked for me

Not sure of this but i tried installing cm11 and various others that emulate 4.3 or 4.4 OS. I believe in order to update you first have to flash the correct kernel and than install the corresponding OS. I havent tried yet but probably will do in the next few days.

I have this problem ...I type in that dd code all the time and it brings me back to where I wanna be ...but once I connect to WiFi it'll try and download the AT&T OTA Update and bam stuck in TWRP recovery mode ...so I can't use WiFi because it'll only let me postpone the update 3 times in 4 hour periods ....is there anyway to download the OTA update from AT&T ...and just saying I have no clue about rooting phones ...any help would be great ....so tired of typing that long code in all the time ...thank god I have unlimited data ...

why does this happen? Is it due to being rooted or because of custom recovery. I saw on youtube that someone took an ota with twrp installed but that was not on a g2. I used towel root, so would it be as easy as unrooting, taking update then reroot? I have d80020c and of course this is the only one that hasn't got the knock on security feature. I would like to be able to update to latest version d80020u so I can use the newer version of dorimanx kernel. I can only use an older version and keep knock on gesture. But, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. Any suggestions?
also, update check and lg mobile tools says I have most up to date version. which is not possible because lg website and att update page states d80020u is out. any insight would be appreciated!

By back to stock d80010d, do you mean you're entirely stock or rooted stock with custom recovery and perhaps have flashed a custom kernel, mods, or have modded some system files along the way? Because if any of the latter, that could be the hangup.

complete back to stock. erased all data. lost root. haven't checked to see if twrp is there, I doubt it is. online chat with att and got them to push ota updates until I reached d80020u.
actually had to restore wireless modem to factory because it wouldn't let me connect. phone stated device previously on ssid could not validate parameters.

not sure if im going to use autorec and install twrp again.
it reverts bootloader back to d80010d. but will I still have kit kat version d80020u? or will it put me back to d80020c?

You'll have 20u but the kernel is patched which is what is breaking knock code. I believe though, you might get away with updating touch firmware via the hidden menu after the fact. (enter 3845#*800#) into your phone's dialer), then settings > update touch firmware. There may be slightly different menu options in the hidden menu depending on variant.

I've heard of people having success with that.

not that worried about knock code. I do want to have the knock gesture.
I didn't have knock on feature on d80020c. and I believe I did have knock gesture with twrp. it was after I flashed dorimanx kernel verison that had support for knock code I lost gesture. it states in his thread you must use version without knock on support but its version4 as opposed to version7 which has features that I want to use. v7 supposed to work correctly on d80020u. I did try updating touch firmware before and It did nothing. actually I thinking about just rooting with towelroot and not adding twrp for a while.
benchmarks on antutu state all cores at 2.26mhz before installing kernel.
after installing kernel cores run at 1.9mhz. with overclock at 2.7mhz

only ran cores with kernel at 2.4mhz once and that was with overclock to 2.8mhz. this resulted in having to let the phone cool down. also serious battery drain even with parameter tweaks unless sleeping which I underclocked for screen off.
right now I kinda feel that cpu runs better with stock kernel. would like other things like speaker gain and fast charging though.
actually the reason I wanted to get d80020u was because of wanting this kernel and knock gesture. now that I have the software version I am getting cold feet because of the hoops I had to jump through to get to this point. I thank everyone who posts to these forums I couldn't have done this without them.
also, I read that even a hard reset will not restore knock in some cases.

actually im not sure if I leave stock recovery and just unroot would allow future updates.

I somewhat misspoke there. I was meaning to say that updating touch firmware may fix the "knock on" feature if it breaks to due using Autorec for custom recovery application.

You should have the new knock code in any event since you'll be running 20u. Guess I could be wrong there but that's my understanding of where you'll end up if you use Autorec.
