AT&T UVerse App Needs to Make Phone Calls?

The AT&T UVerse app is available so you can change recordings on your DVR, but when I went to install it, it requests access to be able to "Directly Call Phone Numbers". Why the heck would it need that? I know this is AT&T and everything, but if it were any other app developer I wouldn't download this app, so why should I trust AT&T?

Anyone have any idea why the app would need that permission?

You have to be an AT&T mobile customer to get the UVerse software on the AT&T Android Market. I am an AT&T mobile customer so it is easy to find the app, but when I turned my phone into flight mode and turned the Wifi on to access the standard Android Market, I was unable to find the UVerse app.
