I have some Amazon credits and I might just get it from Amazon. PS: the Inspire 4G is $70 there, let's hope the Atrix will be offered at $150

Yeah, that's definitely a good find. Hopefully it comes up on Amazon Wireless at the same time as Amazon proper, so the "auto-notify" for which I signed up applies. I'm going to hold out til the phone shows up at Amazon to upgrade, since I'm assuming they'll offer it at a discount too.

Has anyone ever used Amazon Wireless to upgrade a line before? Any experiences of whether there will be trouble carrying over an unlimited data plan?

I actully asked an AT&T CSR and was told to just call them before activating the phone.

I just went through a "trial run" adding the Inspire to my account, and it forced me to choose between three data plan options when ordering. It said it would remove any other plans attached to my line on the family plan in the process...

Gives me the feeling that even if you called a CSR before activating, the contract has been re-written.

    [EDIT]:

Looks like there are a few different stories:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856719

... which talks about a method to make it work, but the last post says that their "MediaNet" plan was wiped away. I currently have a Blackberry data plan, would that happen to me? Is MediaNet a smartphone plan? (I know BB is)

On the other hand, there was this post on AT&T's forums:

    http://forums.wireless.att.com/t5/General-Device-Support-for/Smartphone-Upgrade/m-p/2651977

Which makes it sound like they're just playing it safe, but CSRs are recommending not to try it.

    Thoughts?

Thanks for the information shared here.

I wanted to know if any of you have bought cell-phone with service from Amazon before? Also do they charge sales tax on the device?

Normally Amazon does not charge tax in my state but will they in this case?

Asked Amazon Wireless customer service in an email what they could do about grandfathering unlimited data plans, and they said:

Um... not gonna chance talking AT&T into giving me my unlimited data plan back. Looks like Amazon Wireless is not a viable option for those wanting to keep their grandfathered plans---RadioShack is probably the way to go.

If that's the case, Bestbuy might be the way to go for me...

If I upgrade a line from any of the stores and want to use it on my line by swapping sim, would the store add data plan to the upgrade line if it doesn't have one?
