Here are some comparison shots from my Atrix compared to pics from my iPhone 4. Most of them are very different......

Some of these are in low light, but all are on default - automatic settings, and iPhone 4 has HDR turned off. Flash is on Auto on both also and it came on the exact same shots so there should be no difference there.

This is so hard to believe comparison. It's like Made in U.S.A vs. Made in China (duplicate)......I find it hard to believe that pictures are way off like this........I mean the last two pictures........There is no pink shade in Atrix at all........!

Can any of the other Atrix owner post some pictures...are they really these bad? I hope it's just dsjr's instrument's lens :S

Yea I know. In the sake of fairness though the iPhone flash caused a kind of pink ring around the photo where there isn't one, but the flower in that fake arrangement are pink are you can barely tell.

OMG what a difference, I cant believe there is so much difference, hopefully is just a software issue that can be fixed, I am not looking for iphone4 quality (but no excuse why not) but it should take photos better than this, the 720p video looks fantastic, is this a compromise better video so worse photos.???

Every camera phone can take good daylight photos but it is indoor & low light photos that show how a camera phone is. So thanks for the comparison, hopefully some one else can take some comparison with another motorola or HTC.

    Cheers

The iphone's camera has a little more detail but neither's color representation is correct. The iphone just has that "Samsung TV" vividness that people seem to love.

After seeing this and noticing my orange-bileish yellow on the screen, I can only conclude that the developers @ Motorola are color blind.

This is exactly how my X takes pictures inside,....with any type of direct light the pics are hazy,...cloudy,...like a halo around the light source.

Btw nice furnishing! Really love that table, and I used to have an Evo and that flash was ruthless! It would was anything out horribly....used to have to stand way back or pray the light source was good enough to turn the flash off

Recently, I researched online a lot on comparisons of high-end smartphones cameras and iphone4 camera was always better (so much that I found comparisons of iphone4 against dedicated digital cameras) . In a round-up the Atrix will beat the iphone4 in most areas, the camera quality is not one of them and that's for sure.

I prefer the cakes on the iphone4 then the Motorola Driod X, what sensor manufacture does the Atrix use??? :D

It can't be that difficult to take good pictures on a phone can it???? if the iphone & all nokias can do it then why can't others.

This is why I wanted Nokia to go with Android, Nokia never fail to put great cameras on there phones.

My atrix took really hazy pics straight out of the box. I ended up having to clean the lens real good to get most of the halo's I was getting to go away. Im REALLY disappointed with the camera on this thing. The front facing cam is almost unbearable.

Heres a couple pics I took. The camaro was before cleaning the lens real good and the trucks was after.

For comparison, here is one I took with my Nexus One a few weeks ago

Are you just tapping the button on the Atrix when taking pictures? I did when I first took pics with it, found out when you press and hold then release the button it steadies the camera and when you let off it takes the pic and they look better.

The problem is likely not the camera, but the default software settings which do not handle incandescent lighting very well on the Atrix. My HTC Desire is the same - use the default settings when taking indoor shots and the ISO is way too high (grainy) and the white balance is way off causing the photos to look dull and washed out, with incorrect colours. But since I'm an amateur photographer I realized it's a settings issue on my Desire rather than the hardware. So I set the ISO and white balance manually and suddenly the Desire takes photos that rival the photos on the iPhone 4.

I suggest you try the set of photos again, but this time set the white balance for incandescent or flourescent as needed, ISO to 100, and flash to auto on both phones. Then shoot several scenes and post your results here. I think you'll find a big difference.

I'd really like to see those results. Thanks!

If I am not mistaken I think megapixels mean how well a picture looks blown up, its just that the iPhone seems to have a better lens and also has photon sensors to capture the lighting better than most smartphones

See my post above about ISO and white balance.
Did you take the photo of the parking lot/truck through a window?
While the remote controlled car is reasonably sharp, the image is grainy due to the ISO being too high.

The software programmers at HTC and Motorola obviously don't know anything about photography. Or more likely the people they farm out the development code for the camera really suck. I'm not surprised because I've used Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, and Minolta (before Sony bought them) DSLR cameras, and most of them get the white balance wrong for incandescent lighting using auto. I don't know why it's so hard, but lots of cameras get it wrong.
