Did you set it up for exchange or just an email account?

I've been toying with an app from the market that works pretty good with Hotmail. The app is called 'Improved Email'. The setup is easy and there is a setting buried in the Account Setting>Server Settings that you can check to delete emails from server.

I like it better than the built-in "email" that just push's the emails and won't sync back to Hotmail....even has notification widget.

    Check it out...

Did you say that also sync's back to the Hotmail server?

Yes, the app will sync back to Hotmail. It won't sync read/unread status of your emails, so all your emails in Hotmail on the web will still show as unread email.

So it's not just me with the issue of the deleting items off the Hotmail website and still having them on my phone? I don't remember this happening with my Captivate. Is this problem exclusive to the Atrix or all Android's? Thanks

I think it would depend on how your account is configured on the phone, as well as your sync schedule and options. I have Hotmail configured on the stock mail client, directly, and not via a GMail account and the GMail app., however I am not deleting messages from the PC, so I can not confirm. I will test however.

FWIW, K-9 Mail is generally regarded as one of the better 3rd party replacements for the stock email client, as it has proven more stable, and more robust in regards to configuration options.

I was having the same issue. That's why I'm using an app to make it work right. Lame, I know. I don't know if it's Moto's or Hotmails issue?!?

Mine is also configured on the default mail client. I didn't even add my Gmail account yet. Let us know what you find out. I hope this gets fixed at some point.

    Thanks

No, the account is not syncing to what is currently on the server. It will delete what is on the server if deleted from the phone however.

You would be better off switching to K-9 Mail if this is an important issue, rather than waiting. The Atrix is already on v2.2, where my Defy is only on 2.1 however the Mail clients are similar, if not the same...and the Defy has already had a "Motorola system update", separate from any Android update, which did not include an additional email features.

Yeah, thats what is happening but not the other way around when I delete from Hotmail. I thought this worked on my Captivate. Did that have a different stock email program? Is k-9 Mail what you use? Is it free? Thanks

I don't know what was going on with your Captivate.

K-9 Mail is free (Android Market). I used it when I had the Droid 1 for a month when it first came out. I have it now for my Defy however I only use it for my one work account, which is IMAP based. The only thing with K-9 is that you "have" to micro-manage the accounts, as there are global, account, folder, and class settings, which all need to be addressed with regards to syncing.

My Hotmail account, et al, are managed by the default Universal Inbox, as I like the Messaging widget. It works fine for me as I delete unwanted messages "from the phone", which in turn delete it from the server. I'm always with my phone, which is always "connected", as opposed to being logged into my PC.

So it shouldn't have been working right on the Captivate? I just need a program for hotmail because it is all I use. I would like something that notifies me when mail comes in like the stock mailbox. I also like the messaging widget and would like to have something similar if not the same. Also, what are these settings that must be configured. Thanks

I'm not sure about the Captivate...never looked at one. However it could have been that you were deleting messages on the PC before the phone had time to poll the account.

K-9 will not get you a widget...I don't believe. It may be able to be viewed via 3rd party widget though.

As far as "settings", for which client are you referring?

I know I left it plenty of time to update on the Captivate, maybe it was using a different mail program by default??

What gets sync'd, and when needs to be configured for each item/area. K-9 management is very granular.

This is really annoying, on my iPhone 4 I would read, delete messages on the iPhone and those messages would show deleted and read on the PC, now it won't do either. What's the point of having a SYNC setting if it won't sync???
