Hi, I am a recent transfer from an iPhone and on it I had a app that took your audiobook disks one at a time and converted the files to iPhone type files and you could listen to a book and stop then start from where you left off.
I have been trying to do this with my S8 and cannot get it to work, I have searched online and keep getting directed to Audible Which as far as I can see does not allow you to record your own audiobook CDs and have the converted files sent to your phone.
Also as far as i can see to use Audible you have to pay a monthly fee and I object to someone getting money from me to play my own disks.
Any advice on a similar program to the one I had on iPhone That allows recording and converting audiobooks ON DISK to play on the samsung S8 would be greatly appreciated as I have about twenty books on disk that I want to listen to as my collie takes me for a walk.
Thanks Boyd (mactoshb)

what file format are your audiobooks in? there are a ton of audiobook players that should be able to play audiobooks for you. i have an audible account so i do not have actual files of the books i listened to. but audible as you found out will not play non audible books.

Audible.com is a commercial service that authors rely upon to 'sell' their work. It's a pay-for service that's based on a subscription fee, where Audible gets a percentage and authors get a percentage. People get hired to read written books, or sometimes authors read their own written books, and the recordings get converted to downloadable digital files to be sold as audio books. It's not a service that rips audio disc content and resells it back to you or anything like that.

But there are a lot of sources online where there are free -- here's just a few:
Archive.org
https://archive.org/index.php
Open Culture:
https://www.openculture.com/freeaudiobooks
Librivox
https://librivox.org/
The above are all free and legal (being either free, or under Creative Commons licensing, or public domain content where the proprietary license has expired).
A good source for free and non-free audiobook is your local library. In that case they're DRM-encumbered so you don't get to keep them, just listen to them and 'return' them when done. Try either:
Hoopla
https://www.hoopladigital.com
or Overdrive
https://www.overdrive.com/
Both sites tie in to your local library and require a library card as part of the account registration.

There are of course countless ebooks available through torrented sites, but when this involves pay-for content that crosses moral and ethical boundaries.

"audiobook disks"?? Are they CDs or something? What software and/or hardware did you use with the iPhone to convert them?

If they're only audio CDs, you can probably just rip them to MP3 or AAC with a PC or Mac, using iTunes or something.

Hi, thanks for the reply, the program I used was called "Markable" published by http://rightword.com.au/products/markable/markable2.zip
I believe the writer stopped selling the program some time ago when iPhone did an upgrade to the iPhone that he said he could not get to work with his program
