i tried rooting my evo with unrevoked 3.3.2
i installed hboot, i didnt have htc sync so i obviously didnt have to delete it from my computer, and then i ran unrevoked my phone rebooted 3 times then unrevoked quit saying backup cid is missing. i tried searching for the answer to this but i dont know what to do.

    thanks in advance

Yeah, that's been happening to a few people lately with the latest version of unrevoked. Turn your phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding the volume down button. That'll take you to hboot. Do you currently have S-ON or S-OFF? While in hboot, select the recovery option. What does it do, exactly, when you do that?

Once that is done, boot up normally, the install the terminal emulator from the market. Open it, and type "su" without quotes, then enter. Does the prompt change from $ to #, or do you just get a permission denied error?

i dont even have the superuser app in my app drawer so im guessing it basically failed, also when i ran unrevoked it never asked me to press hboot usb or whatever it is when it ran. and when i ran it it said "rooting phone" while my phone was at the slide to unlock screen which struck me as odd

i forgot to mention i have version 3.31 also. do you think i should try that instead of 3.32?

That aside, I'm sure it failed at some of the things it was supposed to do, but just to see what state your phone is in, can you go ahead and answer the rest of the questions. I'm sure we can get it fixed :).

That means you don't have a custom recovery. If you did (meaning you have unlocked nand access) you'd see recovery options (ie: flash zip from sd card, advanced, etc.)

Yes, you can reboot your phone. Did you see S-ON or S-OFF in hboot? Also, what is your hboot version?

I apologize Akazabam, I feel like I interrupted you. I just came across the thread, read, read, read, and just answered.

Akazabam asked you which hboot version you had. Do you have 2.02, 2.10?

    hboot-2.10.0001

edit: also terminal gave me permissions denied

That's ok :). Any information you can give is just as good.

That's what I expected. Go ahead and go to the Rooting for Dummies guide. You will find in the troubleshooting section that there are instructions for how to fix this, and finish the process manually. If you have trouble finding it, let me know.

EDIT: Wait, did you say you're not using the latest version of unrevoked? If so, go get the latest version, then try again. You need that to root that hboot version. If it still doesn't work, then do what I suggested.

Hm, well, at this point you have S-OFF, so you can finish the process manually by following those instructions in the Rooting for Dummies guide.
