The main reason I want root is for the wireless tethering ability. Can anyone confirm that Barnacle is working?

Not working yet. I know the wifi tether i used on the moto required a custom rom. We have SU .. doesnt mean we have access to all the whole file system yet. but some of the basic Root apps are working, just not this one yet.

I have very little need to root if I can't install barnacle. Can someone work on this a little if they have a minute? I don't understand while its not working at this point?

Once I hear that we can tether over wireless, I will root ASAP. But untill then, the risk is not greater than the reward...

Not to change the subject but you can setup a laptop as a wireless AP using adhoc, firewall off and then use ICS to share the wired connection to the phone. That allows wifi only devices like an ipod to get the net.

I know a lot of people are waiting for wireless tethering .... but why exactly is this a popular topic? I was thinking that one benefit is that you can use your ipod touch, but that doesn't do much for me that my DI doesn't do. What do other people plan on using tether for?

Tethering and streaming movies seems like a great way to tip verizon off that you're violating the Terms of Service...

Unless you are using ridiculous amounts of data they are unlikely to notice. I've downloaded several 100mb+ files over 3G with an Android torrent client as well as a bit of tethering to watch Netflix and have had no problem.

Yea when I rooted my motodroid and used barnacle with verizon...I was using roughly 6gb-10gb a month without a problem.
