So I've finally decided to root my i9100 and have a few questions.
    I have:
    1. successfully flashed Siyah kernel - is it true that this automatically backs up efs?
    2. lost ability to update apps on my external SD card. - Any suggestions to fix that?
    3. I also tried to go for the Biftor ROM (v.10) but it wouldn't boot past the animation screen. - any suggestions for that?

Before rooting, the phone would occasionally reboot itself (usually cause by a bulky game app). It seems to be doing it more now. - again, any suggestions for that?

Sorry, a few questions in one post, but figured it may be better to pool them.

    Cheers.

In theory yes. However, do check.

Backup any important data and format your SD card in the phone and then copy back your data and re-download your apps again and move them.

Biftor has caused some problems in the past. Try going into Recovery mode and clearing Cache Partition and Dalvik and Fix Permissions under Advanced.

Depending on the game, this can happen if the actual game app is moved to the SD card, as the game data is still on phone memory.

Thanks for your replies, ironass. Was beginning to think this forum was bringing no responses.
Figured out the SD problem: a simple one. After flashing the kernel I did the usual backup which filled my card, hence nothing updating. I guess it's silly things like this we learn along the way.
Haven't continued with a ROM yet. Liked the sound and look of the latest Biftor, especially the words "no wipe" in the file, but most directions suggest doing a full wipe/factory reset - something I was trying to avoid. Any ROM recommendations for a first timer like me?

    Thanks for the suggestions above.

Links aren't working but started to look anyway.
This is for JB. I have ICS (4.0.3). Should I stick to roms for ICS, or are JB ones ok?

Links repaired. Once you are rooted, you can flash anything you like for your model of phone.
