RE the original topic.. The discrepancy could be due to the fact that voltage is a factor in calculating the battery level. After removing the charger it may spike for a short period of time.

I do however thing battery calibration is way off for most people. I notice that the first 30% of battery drops far faster than the next 40%, and the last 30% seems to last forever.

I've just charged with the phone off (USB), wiped battery stats and rebooted. Lets see what happens of the next day or two. I'll try the same again with the AC charger if its not much better.

This is what I got every day. Generally 5 hours of battery life. Left idle overnight for 7 hours and it drops 20%.

When the battery dies, can you use the Samsung battery charger to charge it (so that I can put the other fully charged battery in the phone and continue to use it) , or you have to charge it with your phone?

I tried the OP's suggestion. Charged it off overnight. Used it on the way to work, about 30 mins talk, a little bit of other usage, nothing major. Took it off the charger around 7am and at 12:18 I am at 43%. Pretty brutal. I have an extended batter on the way, can't see an extra 250mah helping much.

When people talk about calibration, what is being "calibrated?" Is the battery being calibrated or is it the phone that is being calibrated to the battery? I assume it's the latter so what happens if you use multiple batteries? That could especially be a factor if one of them is extended.

How do you know when the phone is completely charged if it's turned off? I've never charged it turned off before.

Mine is sitting here plugged in with a white battery/charge icon on the screen and I was wondering when I should turn it on.

As everyone said, battery life gets a TON better after calibration. This is so far today, I am honestly impressed with it. My OG Droid couldn't do this, that's for sure!

Please note, I don't have 4G, so I use CDMA only mode, and most of the time I use wifi anyway.

Yeah it's weird, i let my battery die all the way. Then i plugged it back in to charge and it said it was 50 percent full. Very confusing

mine drops 5% per hour over night. so 7 hours, 35% drop from just sitting there idle with the screen off. this is my first android phone and this is not giving me a good impression of this OS at all.

however, at the same time i ended up with about 14 hours on the last charge, including 6 hours of idle time while i slept. so go figure.

Mine drops just slightly over a percent per hour overnight, wifi on, Sync on.

i noticed that "android OS" has 4 hours of keep awake time of the 16 hours it's been running on battery so far. the screen, which has been on for 2 hours is the worst offender of course. and then the voice calls which i've done 1.5 hours of is the 2nd offender.

so is 16 hours the best i can really expect with this kind of usage? why is the android OS keeping the phone awake 25% of the time even when the screen is off?

Got my extended battery yesterday. Charged all night with the phone off. Took it off the charger this morning at 7:10am and it is now at 71% at 10:25. Not much help either with the extended battery. Considering going to Verizon and exchanging it.
