Hi;

The other night I had my charger plugged into my Samsung S4 all night and the next morning discovered that it wasnt actually charging. Is there an app that will give me a large display telling me that the battery is in fact charging?

Thanks for any help

I have two ways on my S4 phone.

#1 - Battery Monitor Widget has a widget with %/hr. Goes from red -3%/hr (or something like that) during use to Green +50%/hr within a few minutes after I plug in my phone (unfortunately not immediate).

#2 - The phone LED should indicate charging status when phone is off. Settings / MyDevice / LED Indicator / "Charging" (description: the Red LED lights up when you charge your phone while the screen is off). Programs like Wanam can give more control of LED.

It's specifically made for Galaxy phones. Basically shows you 3 lines: The top one or reference is how much current your phone should be getting from an original charger, the second is the maximum current you're getting from your charger, and 3rd is the average current you got over time time you started charging.

Basically, if you're charging via USB connection on PC, it should charge at 460mah, which is really slow and depending on what you're doing with the phone, it may not charge at all. Anything below that and you have a phone that's eating current and not charging.

So last night I plug the charger in. I check the Battery Doctor to make sure the phone is charging, and it is. I turn on my music app and set it to shut off in 30 minutes. This morning I get up and the phone is only at 20% power. I went to settings and looked at the battery. It showed me that it was running on battery for 10 hours, but it had only been 7 or 8 hours since I saw it charging on the battery doctor app.

I am wondering if the music app is shutting off the charger or if after the charge is complete, the cord doesnt maintain the charge so by the time I get up it is already run down.

I think I will try plugging it in tonight and not run my music app and see what happens.

If a Samsung phone isn't charging or is using too weak a power cable you should see a red X inside the battery icon up top, with sometimes a notification saying 'for faster charging use original charger'

They also tend to light the screen up showing a battery with a lightning bolt as well, with the lock screen saying 'charging, xx%' with xx representing the current percentage.

Overall I've never been impressed with the Samsung charger. Some work a few minutes, get very hot and stop working so you get a five minute charge then it's as if you unplugged it, or they charge extremely slow, or it over volts and freezes the phone.

This sounds exactly like what is happening. Is there a better charger you can recommend?

I really appreciate your sharing of this. It offered some insight to my problem at home with one of my charging devices.
