I'm not sure if there is or isn't. In my case I'll only turn on GPS when I need it for maps/navigation through the handy little widget.

Had EVO off the charger exactly 5 hours now. Moderate use (texting, internet, messing with a few apps and Market) and I'm @ 49%. As long as this thing can go 8-10 hours with moderate use then I'll be happy.

How do you turn off background data? My battery is terrible! Unplugged it at 8am. Made 3 shoot calls. 4G turned off. No wifi. My battery is at 48% at 1400. This is worse than my jailbreaked iPhone and MyWi. Do I have a bad battery?

so it dropped 50% in 6 hours, thats not bad for a smart phone, my pre would lose 20% just reading a news app for 10 mins, On my evo i went all night last night at the pool hall web browsing, downloading apps and only lost 30-40% (thats from 8pm-2am). Thats with wifi on, bluetooth on, and some 4g use.

How were you able to determine the location of the 4g tower? I'd like to know where the closest one to me is located.

FYI, my Pre sucks batteries dry in no time!! lol

My EVO life is better than the Pre's but then again the Pre had a 1150mAh? vs the EVO 1500mAh.

Been unplugged almost 3 hours with 4G and GPS on almost the whole time, browsing web and texting. 60% remaining so far.

After turning off background data, except for the few things I use a lot, I had very good battery life. Even better than what I was getting with my hero.

I believe it was around 19hrs up time with 7hrs awake time with 20% battery left. Damn good IMHO

Na, Incredible still has better battery life. I get about 1.8 days worth with my Inc easy and as people have reported here they are getting at most 1.5 days with the evo. With 4g on you can kiss the battery goodbye. We're talking about just a few hours with 4g use which is quite funny and quite shocking.

Wifi doesn't use as much battery life as 3G/4G. Try using 3G/4G from 8pm-2am, let us know the results.

Hey, Using my EVO heavy today, lasted slightly over 6 hours. I used it till it shutdown. Put on charger & 1 hour & 45 minutes later the green light came. Checked battery charge & it said 100%. I am very happy with battery life so far. My Pre would die quickly, I mean a few hours if that with heavy use. It does not even get hot like the Pre did. I'm lovin' it!!

I cannot figure out why people buy a great phone like this & then turn off all the great features to get a little better battery life. I say enjoy the phone & get an extra battery if ya need it. Or better yet just but a basic phone.

its good to hear that the battery isn't as big of an issue as the initial reports.

I do have a question for the battery experts: is it bad for the battery to use the phone for heavy internet use while plugged into the charger? I would probably have an extra charger at work to use for streaming music and some general web downloading.

How do I turn off background data and still have GMail push? I turn off BGData and dont have GMail push.

Should I just use K-9 mail and end the GMail app?

This is a shot of my battery life today. Unplugged shortly after 9. I played with my phone quite a bit today, lots of pandora, youtube, dolphin hd browser with flash games, several app games and some toyed around with the camera and video. Not all at once of course, there are def idle times. Now this is much heavier use than I would normally do, but for sake of testing the battery I used it a bit more than I'm used to. After 7.5 hours, I'm at 40% battery

Well, I took my EVO to the Sprint store and they told me my battery was bad. Aaarrggh! Have to wait 2 weeks for a replacement.
